http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/sports/13415186.htm I know this was linked and buried in other threads, but let's consolidate now that it's confirmed.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. So.... If it's a done deal. Then there must have been a deal. So how could SSV come up with a last minute deal of the deal to Houston is done? I wasn't holding on to hope. I thought they were going. But SSV did say they are still working with investors....
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. And.... SSV where to we go from here? It's done right? So now what?
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. The City of Houston, AEG, MLS, and Mayor Ron Gonzalez can... I can't say it. Don't want a red card.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. It might be prudent to start a different thread on that, so it doesn't get buried in this e-wake.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. San Jose Clash/Earthquakes, 6/15/94 to 12/15/05, RIP. You have given my family and I great memories, and I have made many new friends. This is a very sad day
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. Merry ********ing Christmas boy I can't wait to unwrap my Quakes jersey Christmas morning
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. It's not done until it's announced. Not that there's much reason for hope, but if Joe Gazillionaire comes out of the woodwork and calls up Lieweke at 2:30 pm today and says he will buy the team and commit up to $100 million for a stadium, then they would reverse their plans and say "never mind" to the FO employees. That's the 11th hour miracle scenario, not intended to get anybody's hopes up.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. I can't. I can't bring myself to start a thread such as that.... It's too hard to do.... Of course I can post in this one.... But that's too hard....
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. But if there's a deal in Houston, then Houston has been promised a team. They are set to announce a team. So what about them? Isn't that setting the league up for a major lawsuit?
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. Even up to the bitter end, the Merc gets the story wrong: "But attendance always was an issue at Spartan Stadium, which was the team's home." Attendance wasn't the issue. Spartan Stadium and local ownership were the issues. If attendance had increased 2000 per game, for 16 home games, at an average of $20 per ticket, that would only have been $640,000 additional revenue per year. And that's the issue? I don't think so.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. If AEG has made an iron-clad contract with a venue in Houston (the city doesn't matter, it's the lease agreement with the stadium operator that matters), with all of the necessary signatures, then my post is wrong. I'm assuming that any deals they have made in Houston contain an out clause for the scenario of something getting worked out in San Jose within the 30-day period, which includes today, I believe.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. This really sucks. I live near DC and am a longtime United fan (which means I don't have first hand knowledge of Spartan Stadium), but it seems to me MLS and the local govt never really pushed hard to keep the Quakes in San Jose. The market looks good and the team is supported, at least the games I've seen. You guys deserved a SSS and a REAL shot at keeping the team. I don't see the team doing particularly well in Houston.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. I've got a niece and nephew in Davis - 3 year old twins. They just start playing soccer. I was looking forward to the day when I could take them to a Quakes game. I sincerely hope the Quakes find a way to return to Northern California before they're all grown up.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. Oh. Okay. Tanks. That makes sense. I just thought that if Houston was calling a press conference they would have had something set in stone when they did so. And why would they tell all the Quakes staff if it wasn't 100% done? Hmm.... But I guess we don't really know if they do....
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. So, Blackmun telling employees that the team is moving is "not done?" I appreciate the 11.75th hour optimism, though.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. I just can't wrap my head around this. I guess I need to hear it from SSV. I have absolutely lost all trust in all other news sources. Especially when the move is announced in such a blissfully ignorant article.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. That's why I'm so damn confused. I want a bloody fishin' straight answer. Fishin' just tell us we're gone and what to do next! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. Did you see the parts about "not much reason for hope" and "not intended to get anybody's hope up"? I fully expect the announcement tomorrow, but the scenario I have presented is something that has happened in the history of the world. That's all.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. I agree with Noah. It's not done until an "official" announcement and confirmation of the deal. But there's no reason to believe there won't be such an announcement tomorrow.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. Something to remember is that there has been an announcement of a press conference, of which the topic is still unknown.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. You are right, because historically AEG are masterminds at twisting & manipulating the media. After all they probably have 250 lawyers & spindoctors in a room where that is all they are doing. I wonder how those people sleep at night?
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. Can a mod add one of these ( ) to the title of the thread as seen in the Forum thread list? R.I.P. Quakes (at least until 2007)
