Lots of PR speak, but I do think it rings true. Don came in and literally helped save the league. Sure one can quibble about the direction of the future of MLS but we would be nowhere near where we are today without his early leadership.
Uncle Phil notwithstanding, there are no perfect executives. As far as I'm concerned, Don got more right than he did wrong.
The pro/rel and US Open cup douchbags on twitter have this insane hatred towards Don Garber. When I can be bothered t respond, I try to point out that he might be the best US sports commissioner in history when you consider the league he took over and the one he will eventually leave. I've shook his hand on more than one occasion at our stadium over the last 20 years. I don't agree with him on everything, but he's been incredible for our sport.
Eh, my only disagreement is calling the ones who wanted to keep the Open Cup as douchebags. The Pro/Rel zealots I agree but I wish MLS would have supported the Open Cup. Its literally the oldest tournament on our side of the pond.
actually I agree with you. I’d prefer we still had the us open cup and hope it’s back for all clubs next season (let them decide how seriously to take it) but the insufferable and intellectually dishonest people on twitter are too much for me.
