It used to be a stepping stone. Charlie Davies and Alejandro Bedoya both bypassed MLS to start their careers in Sweden and Norway. But generally, as MLS has improved (and Norway/Sweden have declined), the Americans who have gone to these leagues are those who typically can't get a deal with an MLS club and want to do something else besides USL.
he just signed from a second division dutch side so the plan is...to use this to earn a move to the eredivise?
Plan is probably to hopefully play and definitely get paid lol. As far as moves go for him this is about as good as he could hope for IMO.
You're not wrong. But just remember that Schalke wanted to offload Wright to the point where they were willing to subsidize his salary at VVV. A club like VVV doesn't have the budget to pay the required non-EU minimum for many people, let alone Haji. Once Schalke wasn't subsidizing Haji anymore, VVV was going to unload him. Getting back into the Eredivisie is going to be exceptionally difficult for Haji. Hell, getting into any of the leagues with tough non-EU restrictions is going to be tough for Haji. Haji is at the point where he needs to get paid and hopefully play.
Probably the same as everyone..hoping is body holds together. That is an iffy hope and there are no plans for him if it doesn't.
Haji may yet be useful as the footballing equivalent of a government mule, but Nick T.'s future is in his spare parts.
Benny Feilhaber won 22 of his 44 caps while playing for AGF, so his time at AGF pretty much saved his NT career, also getting to play for the USMNT at the WC-10.
Whoever is Wright's agent is doing a hell of a job. Outside of maybe early in his Schalke career, he's constantly being afforded opportunities to succeed, probably beyond what he deserves. He just continues to blow it, in spite of his talent. At least he'll know he has nobody to blame but himself if he never comes around. Though that comes with ambivalence.
The one who really got a giant boost to his NT career in Denmark was Benny Feilhaber, while playing for (my club) AGF Aarhus. At first it was looking good for him at Derby, but then it quickly went down hill and he in all he got to play 14 NT games while playing for them before moving to Aarhus, and though only staying there for 3 years, it by far became the top of his NT career, with 22 NT games and playing WC qualifiers and at WC-2010. When AGF unfortunately suffered relegation due to poor management and he left them to join MLS, it was all down hill only getting 6 more NT games the next 4 years, which was the end of it. AGF was also the club that developed Aron Jóhannsson, though unfortunately he has been terribly struck by injuries, which has ruined his career. Otherwise, FC Nordsjælland made Heath Pearce a US international. besides also being great for Parkhurst, but then FCN are excellent at developing young players and have the youngest top-flight team in all of Europe. Clarence Goodson also won almost half of his NT caps while playing for Brøndby, but otherwise the main problem is that the danish league is great at developing very young players, but the vast majority of Americans moving here have been in their 20's, which is much too late to really be able to do much for them. I mean, Daniel Califf did great at AaB Aalborg, but he was 25 when he moved there from MLS. it's only of lately we have seen much younger American talents moving to Denmark, but unfortunately a huge talent like Amon has been almost constantly injured, and we are yet to see how a Cappis and Sabbi are going to do, problem being that Hobro are not really known for being successful at selling players.
Transfer news: SønderjyskE have also managed to sign the only 19-yo Danish U-21 International central midfielder Emil Frederiksen from Dutch side Heerenveen. This is a very strange move, because he has been doing great of lately and also has been singled out and highly praised by the former Spanish Barcelona youth Co-ordinator and former Borussia Dortmund assistant manager Albert Capellas who is now the manager of the successful Danish U-21 NT, and yet Heerenveen seem to have let him go almost for free.
prob that talent and physique helps. Also haven’t heard that he lacks professionalism. Seems to lack mentality.
German clubs usually have no patience with players who are a bit slow to mature, we also see this from dutch teams, while danish teams will usually give you a second chance, or like with a Aron Jóhannsson (who originally was a midfielder) or Parkhurst (who was an absolute flop as a centre back in Denmark) they will give you a try and chance in a different role and position before giving up on you..
I have noticed that Americans write Sønderjyske instead of SønderjyskE with a capital 'E' at the end .. there is a good reason for the 'E' , because in reality it stands for Sønderjysk Elite sport. Sønderjysk = Southern Jute = South Jutland = North Schleswig in German, because it once was a part of Germany that they lost to Denmark after WW1 and btw was the only scrap of former German land in Europe that Hitler did not demand that should be returned to Germany (probably because he had an almost religious respect for the past history of the "Viking North" and Denmark).. While you all know that Hitler went on a killing spree all over Europe and the extermination of the Jews ( 'Jude' in German) both in Germany itself an in all the occupied territory, this never happened in occupied Denmark, where Jews never wore the 'yellow star' and not a single danish jew went to any of the German extermination camps. A few Danish jews were captured by the Germans and sent to the Theresienstadt Ghetto and concentration camp at the end of the war, but even then representatives from the danish government managed to persuade the Germans to accept packages of food and medicine to be sent to the Danish prisoners, furthermore, Denmark also persuaded the Germans not to deport any Danish Jews to extermination camps. This was achieved through Danish political pressure, also with the Germans well knowing that they were going to lose the war at that point in time. So in February 1944, the German SS embarked on a "beautification" campaign to prepare the Theresienstadt ghetto for the visit from the Red Cross and a delegation from the Danish government. The supposed "prominent" prisoners and the Danish Jews were re-housed in private, superior quarters. The streets were renamed and cleaned; sham shops and a school were set up and the SS also encouraged the prisoners to perform an increasing number of cultural activities. Still, a total of 51 mainly elderly Danish Jews got sick and died of disease at Theresienstadt, but this is how and why more than 99% of Denmark's Jewish population survived the Holocaust.
