Probably true, but I know that the university O&M will be fielding a team in the next Liga Mayor championship

Great find by the Dominican Soccer blog, Balompie Dominicano.

Carlos Martinez Rivas is a '94 defender playing in Barca's cantera.

Good luck to the league. I have a small hope that a group of investors purchases a USL-1 franchise. Seeing the PR Islanders vs a USL Dominican side would be good. A Boriqua vs Quisqueya rivalry would lift Carribean soccer.

The idea is very good, but the cost would be way too high

(Even a successful franchise like the Islanders is losing a lot of money)

Does any of those clubs have a website? And which DR major news site that is likely to provide results?

If you understand español try ''balompiedominicano.blogspot.com''

I know that FC Bauger has a website too

Also know that Moca has gotten 4 ''resfuerzos'' from Ayiti, I will try to find out their names

    The results

    DOSA - Barcelona 2 - 2
    Bauger - San Cristobal 3 - 1
    Jarabacoa - O&M 4 - 0
Moca - Pantoja 1 - 0 with the goal scored by Jonathan Faria Frias (we all thought he played with the Puerto Rico Islanders)

So there isn't an official website yet right? I was hoping that if the league was being sponsored by Coca-Cola that they might put some money into making a site.

Also I'm quite surprised that Faris isn't with the Islanders. What ever happened to the deal? I heard that it was pending on paperwork, but was that ever really the case?

That's a good number. I would suggest they use local music bands to attract more people to the games.

What happens to that kid Fana (or Fanas)? I think he was a very good player. He must be now between 21 to 25.

He was born in april 1987, so that makes him 23 right now

I thought he had signed with the USSF div 2 Boricua Islanders, but yesterday he played with his hometown Moca in the local Liga Mayor De Futbol. I am not a specialist of the Fifa rules, but probably he will have to wait untill the next transfer window opens on july 15th

Local newspapers report that Jonathan Faña Frias will be leaving Moca for Puerto Rico next week. He will be replaced by the Antone Sandorin. Maybe our haitian friends can give us some more information on him.

Never thought this thread would continue to grow the way it did when I first started it. Ok so what happened to Henry-Alexander Diaz? I thought AC Milan and Napoli were chasing him?

I was recently down in DR for a good 8 days during the World Cup, I have to say that I have seen a lot of interest in soccer from Dominicans and it's just not during the World Cup, but now a days you say Messi and the majority of Dominicans know who he is.

I saw young kids kicking around the soccer balls, I saw Dominicans wearing the Argentina jersey, the Spain jersey, the Italy jersey. Where ever I went I saw world cup fever, sure it could be because it was the world cup, but the moment in time is enough for someone to fall in love with the sport. I saw people standing around TV sets watching the games.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Dominicans that play soccer and live in Europe will help the sport grow a bit more, there's a big Dominican community in Spain, and with Spain having won the cup, that alone can motivate a lot of young Dominican to continue to take up the sport a bit more serious.

Just a question... why football in Dominican Republic is not in a decent level? last summer I played against a lot of dominicans in a camp and they where very good players.. also they actually like football. because is a pity for a country like DR.

Probably lots of reasons, like 1. a true baseball and basketball culture, 2. lack of soccer fields, 3. a very bad FeDoFutbol, 4. lack of funds/money, 5. fraud and corruption, 6. lack of good coaches, 7. etc...

Which is a shame, because the Dom Rep could and shoud produce lots of good and very good players

    Very bad news

24 year old haitian national Frantz Dy Saint Surin has died, he played in the local Liga Mayor De Futbol with Moca (the team Jonathan Faña used to play for), broke his arm during the game in La Vega and suffered a heart attack during surgery

    Peace to his rests

In the Dom Rep Faña is better known by his nickname Juanbosito
