Congratulations to the Fire! They have a chance to do something really special this year. Interesting to note that they've never won the Supporter's Shield. I'm sure they'd like to change that.

I just noticed something else: No team has ever won the Open Cup and the Shield in the same year.

also, only in 2001 has a different team won each of the three titles.

I believe the Fire clinched the Shield this weekend, holding tiebreakers over San Jose if they have the same amount of points.

However, one thing missing from the titles listed above - is conference titles (West/Central/East).

Putting those into the mix, I believe (and might be wrong) - that only the Metrostars do not have ANY titles.

    Like it matters...But you're wrong.
In fact, you can still buy the Year 2000 Eastern division Champions Youth T-shirt :O

When the conferences get bigger than 4 or 5 teams each, then we can talk about conference titles being awards. If we never have a balenced schedule (which we probably won't due to geography), the SS will never quite be right, so conference titles might be a little more fair. I mean, they are calling the Fire the Eastern Conference champs now, but don't we have a conference playoff final coming up? Doesn't that determine the champ? Whatever...

Heh, well look what I found (http://www.chicago-fire.com/organization/yearly_awards.asp)

They have trophies, so I guess they should count!

No, the only titles that count (and that are recognized by Major League Soccer) are the Supporters Shield (Best Regular Season Record), the MLS Cup, the US Open Cup and The Concacaf Champions Cup...

Aha. The game took place in 2001, that's all, and the USA Today page listed it as 2001. So confusing...
