Based on discussions in the preexisting UEFA thread, this new thread is now for all domestic league matches in the 2023-24 season outside the USA and England. If discussion of a match or incident from a match is warranted, it should go here. And if there is enough discussion for assignment analysis and discussion, it will go here. UEFA-level competitions will remain in the UEFA-specific thread. Other league-specific domestic threads will be closed. Let's hope this works.
Two moments in the Feyenoord - Fortuna match from referee Rob Dieperink : At first the ref gave a yellow card, but the VAR asked him to take a look at the incident, which made him change the yellow into red. Some say the Feyenoord player slips and because of that hits with his other foot the leg of the Fortuna player and thus the red isnot right. Others say, it's the impact that matters, thus the red is justified. Here we see Giménez breaking through and fouled. At first a penalty and a yellow card was given, but again the VAR adviced the ref to take a look. The penalty was revoked and a free kick just outside the box was given. However it was player who was heading towards a one on one with the goalie, but no red was given
Good idea For anyone specifically looking at la Liga, the RFEF posts the referee report for every game where you can see the actual reason given for every yellow and red card in every game, ex. the specific UB reason a card was given https://wwwrfef.novanet.es/pnfg/NPc...=900164027&CodGrupo=900164028&CodTemporada=19 Click the green button under the score of the game and scroll to the bottom

How about a ref who carries a few pieces if yellow construction paper and tears it up to show the red
I am glad this was done. It will avoid my having to scroll past discussions of games I have no knowledge of, nor interest in, that occur in those other domestic leagues, when looking at the UEFA games thread. PH
Found this on Reddit, Turpin had a mic for a Nantes-angers ligue 1 game back in June an this shows his conversation with players and VAR on a penalty check
La Liga has put together a highlights package of coaches (!) from the first weekend of competition. One of these things is not like the others (from 1:18), though note the tight camera angle that does not show where he goes exactly.
Ligue 1 has recently released a video from various domestic league games with mic'd up referees similar to the UEFA one from a few seasons ago.
As we predicted when we made this thread, La Liga comedy strikes again. Osasuna vs. Athletic Club BIlbao August 19, 2023 59' red card 2CT https://streamin.me/v/f9b7fd8e 90+4' SFP RC https://streamin.me/v/d68593ac, also a manager getting sent off in this video too
On Chimy Ávila's straight red card: La plancha is studs up or cleats exposed. But now I'm going to start calling it "in the shape of a plate."
As someone who speaks Spanish as their 1st language, these Google translations are hilarious and terrible. Please make it stop.
I just wrote "in the shape of a plate" in the Notes section of my 23/24 Laws book (there are 20 pages for notes, by the way), so now it's officially part of the Laws of the Game.
Serie A, Frosinone-Napoli. About four minutes in, FRO gets a penalty in their favor. The call was REALLY late, like 4-5 seconds after contact. The referee originally appears to point to the play in a manner that says, “Yes, I saw that” and starts to run upfield. He then turns around and points to the spot. It did look like a penalty, but the optics of the referee did not look good in the least.
USMNT member Brendan Aaronson got himself sent off in 21 minutes for a 2CT....would never see that in the EPL....
Ruled onside leading to a Athletic Bilbao penalty. I've seen enough VAR lines to know something doesn't add up here.
Did anyone catch this match? The incident is from 2:10 in the ESPN highlights. It would appear Del Cerro Grande recommended a review, of the penalty decision I assume. It would also appear Soto Grado stuck with his initial call, but the highlights video doesn't show the full review process.
Some interesting moments here. 2:30 -- PK after VAR, no yellow card for blocking shot on goal 4:05 -- Sane absolutely decks an opponent on a counterattack, no yellow card 4:20 -- Kane arguably fouled before he can take a shot 4:48 -- is there any way to play advantage here? 6:07 -- apparently assistant coaches hold up the sub board in Bundesliga? Makes sense to me
Same is probably fine to not get a YC The advantage one, definitely could have waited a second to see why happened and then you wouldn’t give the yellow card because the promising attack wasn’t stopped with that fast of a free kick. But the way the attacker tumbled down Im sure the ref didn’t expect him to get up and restart that quickly

This sort of nonsense is already covered in instruction as far as I know, but it does add a layer of subjectivity.
