Teddy Niziolek (Seton Hall University) and Chad Dombrowski (mentioned in other threads earlier) will arrive in Sweden on Tuesday for trials with Superettan (D2) sides Sirius and Enköping. The neighbouring teams are just promoted from the 1st division (D3) and usually seens as fierce rivals. Chad's brother Tighe played for Sirius last season. He hasn't re-signed yet, but seems likely to do so. Newslink.
Thanks for this. Here's Niziolek's bio from Seton Hall (he's a 1985 from New Jersey), where he finished up this past season: http://www.shupirates.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=12600&ATCLID=579312 Looks like he has some past U.S. U-20 experience.
Countess' contract with Osters only went until the end of the 2006 season. Apparently he signed a short term deal with them at the last minute when French team Metz couldn't get a player sold that would open up a foreign spot for him to sign on there. Latest is that he is on trial with a team in the first division of Romania to finish out the season there. Anyone know anything about the Romanian league? It looks really good, 7th in Europe on the UEFA rankings!
http://www.goalslive.com/new/info/lgtab/1035.htm The Bucharest teams dominate (with the exception of National).
Dombrowski is a really good outside back, strong header and defender, little short on pace but has fantastic offensive skills from that position. Always surprised he didnt catch on in MLS given the lack of good outside backs in that league.
YA has Niziolek asked to stick around a bit more, and Dombrowski coming soon. Link: http://www.yanks-abroad.com/content.php?mode=news&id=2621
Dombrowski and Niziolek will not be offered contracts by Enköpings SK: "They are in no way bad players, but we still decline since we think we already have stronger players on their respective positions in our squad." Newslink. No news yet on the results from their trials with the second club, Sirius.
As far as Countess, I wonder if he caught on. On the website, www.uefa.com of two of the Romanian teams left in the final 32 teams, Dinamo just re-signed and paid big bucks for a former keeper who had been playing in the top Italian league at Florentina, so I'm sure he'll get the top spot. As for Steaua, they just had their top keeper go down with a knee injury. Hopefully, he is trying to catch on with that team. Does anyone think that players are taking to heart Arena's slip that he said in between being National coach and Red Bulls coach? You know, the statement that he thought more American players should try and go play in Europe. Seems like more are trying to catch on somewhere over there.
