Suddenly our deep pool of right backs gets a little shallower with Cherundolo not making the trip, so I see 3 possibilities here, who do you like? Spector, Lichaj or Chandler.
I said in another thread that they are all relatively unknown quantities there, and we couldn't go wrong sticking any of the three in there. If it was me, I would start Chandler.
Lichaj can make mistakes, Chandler can make mistakes. Both are young and fairly inexperienced. Lichaj, though, Bradley will not start Chandler against Argentina, not the way he rolls.
I'd like to see Chandler at right wing and Lichaj at right back at some point, even if that has the potential to collapse an entire side with inexperience. My guess is however, if Bradley is picking from the three we'll see Spector at Right back for the Argentina game.
I hope not. Spector is way too slow to deal with Argentina's speed. Lichaj would be better solely because he is quick. Spector can play RM to add cover.
gotta say Lichaj, see Gareth Bale shutdown. Its not like bob to start someone totally new like Chandler either particularly against a foe like argentina. I will facekeyboard if we seriously use spector as a fullback option any further.
Lichaj had a great game against Bale, but then a string of pretty bad ones and poor defensively performances. I'd be surprised if Lichaj starts especially since he was a late call in.
Spector is an experienced player who has good familiarity with the rest of the team and should get the start. Bring Lichaj in during the second half and then give Chandler some time in the Paraguay game.
I agree with those who say Spector gets the nod, but I really think our best option has not even been called up...Frank Simek.
So, after seeing Timothy Chandler in the 2nd half, I think we can officially close this thread, right? The guy did a hell of a job tonight, count me as impressed.
Frankie Simek is what he is. The injury really hurt him, but even before then he was what he was at his best. CCAF material. C'ship fullback at absolute best. Yes, I have watched him quite a few times. He isn't a hidden gem that BB is missing because of his cluelessness...the BS mantra for any lower league guy BB doesn't call in (Not saying you do this). I said it after CC and I'll say it now. Zach Lloyd is a guy who could really surprise in a couple of years. He is already more physically adept to the international game, and he seems to be a quick study. Simek is who he is. He is not close to our best option. Especially not with Chandler, and a hopefully still growing/learning Lichaj in the picture. He is what he is.
I forget which game that Lloyd played in, SA or Chile, but I actually thought it was Lichaj out there, similiar build, similiar skillset. I still think that Bornstein is an option at LB.
I dont know if I feel comfortable with Chandler as our RB. He is best suited as a winger with his pace and crosses, plus dolo is one hell of a RB.
Spector can defend CONCACAF level talent, but we have seen repeatedly at both club and country level that he is not a top tier defender. At the same time, he has given us lots to contemplate in pondering what he can offer as a midfielder. Count me in as impressed with Chandler. Dolo is the veteran at RB. Chandler and Lichaj are our future, but I'm still pulling to see Frank Simek.
