You all have just got to check this out. http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/479/dokaka.html then go here http://dokaka.s18.xrea.com/index.html Whoever this Dokaka cat is, he's got it goin' on. Like he says; "all songs, all parts, MOUTH WORKING ONLY." The things you can do with a computer, a mic, and Acid Music these days.... Nothing if not ambitious, he covers Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and Steely freaking Dan, for god's sake! 'Peg' is great, and his 'Ramblin' Man' is jaw-dropping - the best weirded-out cover of an Allman Brothers song since TMBG did 'Jessica'. I can't wait for his version of Toto's 'Africa' to hit the net. Dokaka Rocks - he should be the Freelance Hellraiser of 2003.
Best. Musician. Ever. And forgive me if I steal this link for my new .sig. I love the fact that the guy obviously has almost no idea what he's singing, so you get a Japanese sounds-like interpretation of the lyrics of "Kid Charlemagne" and "Ramblin' Man". "Creeping Death" was clearly meant to be performed a capella.
When he "sings" the guitar jam at the end of Ramblin' Man, I get the chills...but I can't figure out if they are chills of joy, or my body warning me to get away from the speakers before something bad happens. Totally weird & wonderful.
In the same vein (maybe), Austrian techno a capella: http://www.bauchklang.at/home_e_flash.html Saw them at the Montreal Jazz Fest last year and they blew the crowd away.
Dokaka is being played on WFMU right now. "Angel of Death" by Slayer, where DJ Brian Turner was playing both the original and the Dokaka interpretation simultaneously. He has truly made it in America!
I spoke with him via AOL IM (as he suggests on his website that all his fans do...) and he advises that his version of Toto's "Africa" is almost done. I cannot wait.
Can it be that we Bigsoccerites will help break Kutchered.com AND Dokaka (I gotta admit, I did find out about him from another message board) almost simultaneously? How long until Dokaka gets Kutchered?
It appears that Dokaka was first played on WFMU last week on Inflatable Squirrel Carcass. And if you put Dokaka through Google, you'll see that some death metal fan sites were on this guy as early as mid-May. Regardless, Dokaka is still far, far away from being kutchered.
Hmm, maybe we can get Apocalyptica (four Finnish cellists who issued a Metallica-covers CD several years ago) to play background for Dokaka's version of "Creeping Death"?
OMG! I just listened to his cover of Angel of Death. This is the most amazing use of the human voice as an instrument since The Original Human Beat Box or maybe even that black guy from the early Police Academy movies!
Angel Of Death is the best of his I've heard so far. But I do like 21st Century Schizoid Man and Green Earrings also. Sir Duke is pretty funny. He has all the breaks and sound effects down! I think he is a good mouth drummer. I will download the Carl Palmer solo later. I would like to hear him mouth Bohemian Rhapsody.
