Well yeah, its something, but do you (we) take it seriously? Other than the hateing with great hatred (?) of the Mutts, that is. The 6-2 shellacking got me thinking about this, Do the Atlantic Cup trophies just keep racking up in our trophy case, or is it just kind of like a braggin right deal?

The first year was funny because the Metrodonkey supporters got up in arms that DC supporters got to choose the name and they didn't have a say. So, whoever won that year (2001 or was it 2002?) got to name it. Well, it stayed the Atlantic Cup... Other than since 1996, I've wanted DC United to win every game against Jersey, this cup is meaningless. MLS thought that the Brimstone Cup between the Fire and the _____ in Dallas was something they could replicate between DC and NJ. It was a top down marketing ploy and I believe that most fans see it that way and don't care about the Cup itself. Of course, we all want to win every game against NJ but the Cup itself is pointless... I hope that clarifies. Oh, it doesn't count as "hardware".

It was clearly modeled after the ridiculous attempt to manufacture a rivalry known as "The Brimstone Cup". Each match with the Donkeys is its own Cup Final. We one the last one 6-2. That is all.

I don't EVER want the Metros having a piece of hardware that commemorates their superiority over us, especially in such a personal way. I very much want them to keep exactly ONE LONELY TROPHY in their trophy chest, while we continue to rack up many of that very same trophy ... and it gets lost amongst our far more meaningful trophies. If "u" got pimp-smacked like a ten-dollar ho that's been holding out on her daddy by a bunch of "has-beens," what does that make "u"?
No. Software neither (though the Mutts defense did look pretty soft during that 6-2 game). It is a legitimate rivaly, but the league can't -- and shouldn't try to -- manufacture tradition.
