Does KC have a responsibility to change their stadium name?

Lance Armstrong is not fighting the USADA charges. Essentially, he is being found a cheat- which would also then mean he was lying all these years. You comfortable with KC's stadium named after his charity?

I wonder what the naming rights contract said (is there a morals clause for Armstrong?)

Crappy situation for KC, but sometimes you gotta do the right thing.

How is this news? Anyways, whatever cheating he owns up to pales in comparison to what his charity is about. It's just freaking cycling. Livestrong is a great charity.

Screw that. Lance is being subjected to an unprecedented witch hunt and being convicted with scant evidence.

    Shame on the USADA

Are you serious or are you trolling?

It's not Lance Armstrong Park. It's Livestrong Sporting Park.

If you can't tell the difference, I don't know what to say.

from my very limited dealings with them I can say unequivocally they the USADA are a bunch of douche Nozzles. Also why are they not going after Clemons world series rings or bonds home run record?

MLB isn't under the purview of the USADA.

Lance Armstrong the person and LiveSTRONG the organization are two separate entities.

That is the point. Neither is the tour. As far as I understand it anyway. The USADA is claiming that because his team was sponsored by by the US Postal service he was in fact a federal employee, thus criminal charges could be levied against him... To quote one of the great warrior poets of our time, "That is some bullshit right here."

And the World Anti-Doping Agency is backing up the USADA's jurisdiction. Though this is the first time I've heard the "federal employee" reasoning, I'd love to see a cite on that. If the allegations are true and the UCI covered up a positive test of Lance's (something multiple sources have now reported, for what its worth) you can't exactly trust the UCI to handle Lance's case. CAS would be the only other possible choice.

Either way changing the stadium name is stupid, but given some of the OP's threads he's started, I'm not surprised he would come up with this idea.

Though the alleged positive tests seem to be from 2009 and 2010. That isn't remotely enough proof to strip him of titles won years before (and he also submitted to testing during all of those tournaments).

Though we don't know all the evidence gathered. Certainly other riders (Landis, Hamilton, Vaughters) who rode with Lance during his TdF winning years have publicly admitted to rampant doping with in team.

I'm sure he is giving up his fight to clear his good name to devote his time and resources to help OJ find the real killers of Nicole Brown & Ron Goldman.

I think relatively reasonable folks can infer that after losing his court case in the last few days he realized the walls were closing in on him so he quit the "witch hunt" rather than have everything come out (many of his ex-teammates were called in to testify I believe a few months back).

I think Livestrong has sort of moved beyond Armstrong, but it no doubt hurts the narrative to have much of his achievements be considered a chemically-induced fraud.

But few specifically say Lance Armstrong did doping, at least from what I've read. It seems more like they accuse him of hiding and facilitating the drug use of his teammates. The USADA might have more evidence, but it has to be far more significant than what is currently available to the public to warrant a loss of all titles and a lifetime ban.

For that, there should be evidence that he's been doping throughout most of his career, but if so, I would think federal prosecutors would have gone after him more forcefully than they did.

Does that mean SKC will eliminate the one yellow seat that is reserved for Lance Armstrong the person?

Andy- If you google Livestrong, next to the link its says: "The Lance Armstrong Foundation unites, inspires and empowers people affected by cancer". They are very closely connected.

If Armstrong did cheat...that would make him as big a profile cheater in the history of sports.
Also, the period of time that it went on would be virtually unprecedented.
It would have meant that he has lied about his involvement for a decade or more, and
he used drugs to build a substantial fortune, fame, and a large organization like Livestrong.

One could argue that Armstrong started Livestrong as cover. All the time groups
doing the wrong thing start charities for that very same reason. I don't at all question
the good work of people at Livestrong (they had nothing to do with this), but I would question MLS' connection to their leader, who is the heart + soul of that foundation. Their entire existence is due to Armstrong and his story. He used his brand to create their brand. We just (apparently) didn't know at the time that he was breaking the rules.

What if Armstrong had come out in 2000 and said he was doping? How big and powerful would
Livestrong be in that case? In all likelihood, Armstrong would be Floyd Landis (with not a lot of money in the bank and infamous), Livestrong would cease to exist or be a small organization, and they certainly wouldn't be sponsoring KC's stadium.

Telling the truth would have changed the narrative. So are we supposed to play along with those who do the wrong thing, and take their money from them or their surragates?

Yes, I think there is argument to be made that this is 'tainted' money. I am open to constrasting views.

Beyond this, he cheated in athletics. This is the naming of a stadium where athletes play. I find that a troubling association.

I'm not sure what to do in this case, but I certainly think it is a valid question.
It looks like the range of opinions are across the spectrum on this one.

He is their most prominent spokesperson, THE spokesperson, and he says he is dedicating the rest of his life to his foundation, Livestrong/The Lance Armstrong Foundation.

" Each brought hope and joy to a lot of people's worlds. Paterno inspired generations of football players to be better men. Cabrera gave San Francisco four wonderful months of baseball, and Armstrong made millions believe they could do anything.

But at the same time he sold a fairy tale. And he demanded we believe it. He fed it to us repeatedly while throwing everything he could find in the way of a darker truth that kept closing in."

I'm torn. The classy thing to do would be to replace it with a black seat. The douchy thing would be to replace it with an overstuffed Barcalounger.

Except for the home opener it's been filled by a cancer survivor, not named Lance Armstrong, to celebrate their fight. They very well could change the name/tribute behind the seat, but the concept (I think) should stay.

Tee hee... yeah, he took off up those mountains like he was on a motorbike, leaving all those other guys (many of whom who previously or subsequently got caught doping) in the dust... but it's a witch hunt?

Let's be honest, SKC should have seen this coming - everyone at the Tour de France except the stragglers ahead of the broom wagon is doped. If you lie down with dogs, you wake up with fleas. If I were SKC I'd find another charity to support. Preferably not something affiliated with Usain Bolt....
