I'm a huge soccer fan but the game is being played at 9PM on ESPN2. Also at 9PM on ESPN (depending on where you live) is Carolina vs. dook....... USA MNT should know better than to schedule against ratings suckers like dook/Carolina. They could've had it at 7PM or another time. Hell, I'd love to watch USA/Mexico but I got tix to my alma mater's beat down of dook, there isn't really any choice.
And you should know better than to assume that anyone outside of North Carolina considers the NC/Duke game to be any kind of big deal.
^^ bingo. NCAA basketball regular season. o0o0o0o0o0o i cant miss that!! ---- seriosly people who are gonna watch USMNT are gonna watch no matter what.
Well, unless you're a tobacco road junkie who would rather watch their large public school attempt to beat a tiny private school by throwing a ball through a hoop more times, or maybe less times but from further distance. BTW, Go Duke. I didn't go there but my brother did play football (pointy kind) there. I'll watch the highlights. After the game in Houston.
I'm curious as to how many duke / unc fans will opt for the soccer. i for one will be doing so (as a duke alum). what will suck will be the scoring updates at the bottom of the screen, which will undermine the tivo option
I thought on a similar thread last week (yes, you might try the search function before starting a thread), someone said that last year's US - Mex game was also up against UNC - Duke and actually beat it for ratings. So, is this news or analysis?
Potentially important news for those expecting to watch USA-Mexico on ESPN2: 7pm Eastern on ESPN2 - Texas at Oklahoma, men's bball 9pm USA-Mexico It's unlikley that Texas-OU will finish in under 2 hours so you may want to start your evening watching Estados Unidos versus Mejico on Univision before switching over.
Can you actually tell me what time kickoff is? If it's actually at 9:30 that makes my night a whole lot easier.
Yes, it would be nice if ESPN/USSF could schedule USA matches when there are no other sports taking place. This seems, however, highly unlikely.
Still amazes me that people would prefer watching amateur athletes over professional ones but anyways...Who cares what else is playing...this is our national team which should trump everything else...hopefully one day it will.
Believe it or not, duct tape works wonders, and comes right off your TV. Although I've ever only tried it on a CRT (not a projection, LCD, plasma, etc.), so attempt at your own risk.
The underscore here is that ESPN has actually schedule 25 minutes of pre-game coverage, which is nice. The battle for the Rio Grande should be given its due attention.
We in the soccer community will try to soldier on. Having to pick between Carolina and Duke and the USMNT is a test of ones will, but I can only hope the angels of our better nature rise to the occasion and provide us with the sufficient faith to turn on ESPN2 and not ESPN. Bob Bradley, give us strength.
The more important decision that sways it for me... my Dork-Carolina commentary choices, Vitale or Packer (in ACC country). Those buffoons will keep me from switching back and forth more than I normally would.
I've been a Duke basketball fan since 1986 so Duke-Carolina is a big deal for me and it is for most sports fans in America. I think it's funny that a lot of American soccer fans act like that no other sports exist. That said, I'm watching US-Mexico and hoping that that Duke Carolina ends up as an instant classic. I highly doubt the reverse would happen.
The blue painters tape should do the trick and come off any of the screens. While you're at it, tape up some streamers and the US Flag. It will make it more like you're at the game!
I have to take issue with this phrase. It is not a big deal for most sports fans in America. The super bowl was a big deal. The world series is a big deal (not to me, but to most). The NCAA basketball tournament is a big deal. But this 1 ACC league game is pretty non-existant to us here in the midwest. I just checked our local sports page. There is no mention of NC-Duke game except in a TV listing. The US-Mexico game gets the same coverage. I imagine the same is true in other parts of the country not named North Carolina.
And being and N.C. Stater...I am planning on watching USA/Mexico and hoping UNC/Duke blow each other up.
Yes it is a good sign that ESPN has allocated a 25 min. pre-game. Now let's hope we hear some quality insight about the game during that period. Am I asking for too much??
