I just heard an Interview with Honduran forward Milton Tyson Nuñez. He said he DC United is interested in acquiring his services. Has Anyone heard anything on the subject? I guess he's not happy with the $450k/year his getting in Pachuca (MFL club)
This was brought up a month or two ago...somebody personally asked Ray about Tyson, and Ray just gave a smirk. I'd love to see it.
Oh hell yes. He's had some good games in DC. At our expense, but it would be nice to have him on our side for once. Sachin
Mind giving us some more details on where, when, context, etc.? Is his contract up making him available on a free?
Ain't that the truth. I remember watching Nunez at RFK, and we got that awesome 'Circus Freak' chant going (to the tune of Rick James 'Super Freak'). He really is a weird looking dude, but he's something to watch alright. I just don't know. There have got to be some good players out there who are ABOVE average height.
Unlike certain...how can I put this politely?... less enlightened soccer fans,Thamlin.... Hudson doesn`t seem to measure talent in inches....Maradonna wouldn`t have been in your team, would he?Or W.Germanys Mueller,Nick Rimando,Brazils Rommario....Pele was a reallllly big guy wasn`t he....etc,etc...see what I mean Thumblin~~~ "Too sm-a-a-awwwl....get the BIG guy in". Di*k head. Why our Nats get no respect here....The HELMET mentality.
Just curious: Does anyone know what Reyes was making with his previous club, and what he's making now?
Umm, I thought it was pretty obvious to regular posters on these boards that it was a joke. A lot of people have joked about Hudson signing and playing short players (Richie Williams, Eliseo Quintanilla, Henry Zambrano, Jose "Chino" Alegria, and Nicky Rimando). I'd say probably about every other poster who read or will read this thread got the joke, and your personal attacks are highly unwarrented. I would gladly have (in their primes...I wouldn't take Maradona now thank you), Diego, Gerd, Pele, Romario would all be on my team, if they would fit under the MLS cap.
### MODERATOR'S NOTE ### JoeKappa - That's enough with the personal attacks. They aren't welcome here.
I think Nunez would work well here in DC. He has panache when it comes to goal scoring. My Honduran friends in the Barra would like to see him in D.C too. I was impressed with him during World Cup qualifiers at RFK.
Sorry....just hate that sort of pea-brained "physical" type perception of our game...and I don`t buy the "just joking" line BTW...why even go there if you think diminutive players are a liability to a good side?
Hell yeah, I'd love to see "Tyson" on the team. As has already been noted in this thread, he's torn it up at RFK in the past...plus, there are endless hours of entertainment to be had by imitating some classic Mike Tyson quotes in Spanish with a Mike Tyson accent/lisp: like his "I've got one eye!" quote from his post-ear-biting press conference: "Tengo uno ojo! Tengo uno ojo!"
Tyson Nunez? Now there's an idea for you. Why didn't anybody think of that before, like when he was a free transfer... Is he a free transfer now?
Ease up on Thamlin, he's alright. Nunez is short, yes, but that guy has some serious springs in his shoes. He's like Spudd Webb. It's a real eye opener, but that guy wins headers ... in traffic! He has the same sort of finishing as Twellman in that he dosen't need much space to get off a shot, and he pulls the trigger very quickly. He has good aim and placement. The biggest difference, for me, is that while Nunez may not duplicate Twellman's season, Nunez always seems to sneak behind opposing back lines. He has a knack for finding open spaces, so unless he is very tightly man-marked, he's going to score. Also, he's fast, sort of like a Josh Wolff or Michael Owen player on the break, but not quite as fast as those two I don't think, and not quite as clinical as Owen. I think if Nunez were here, Santino would be in more of a creator role, like he was with the U-17's when he played right wing mid to Eddie Johnson up top. I don't think that's the best role for Santino, but the defensive attention that Nunez would command would open up a lot of space for Santino to take shots from distance and beat his man on the dribble, so I suspect Santino would score just fine. Also, we'd be able to counter-attack, something we could only do with Ali Curtis this year. But, if we add Nunez, we'd have to add a target forward in the draft for when teams bunker on us. If a defender (or two) lays a body on Nunez his vertical leap is greatly lessened. Nunez could have a similar impact on us as Ruiz did on LA. While LA's defense was statistically more sound, I think that was a result of them playing 6 defenders (4 backs and 2 Dmids--Elliott and Vagenas/Ochoa) or bunker/counter tactics. -Tron
Re: Re: Does DC want Tyson Nuñes? I was watching a pre-game interview (America Vs Pachuca is on right now) and Jorge Sambrano asked Nuñes if the DC rumors where true. Nuñes smiled and said "It's nice to know there are teams out there who notice me" I don't know about his contract. I think he signed a three year deal, which means he's got 2 1/2 years left. Now, there have been rumors that Tyson is not happy with his pay check. He's mentioned before that guy like Cardoso are making over $1 million. Note to Tyson: "You ain't Cardoso!" No way! If he's getting paid $450+k Pachuca won't let go for less than 3 times that.
I don't know why anyone would go after Thamlin. At least he has the balls to put what team he supports under his name.
Height does become an issue when Williams thinks he should be in the box on corner kicks. That annoys me when he goes up and attempts to get a head on the cross up against a 6 ft tall defender. Play to your strengths not your liabilities.
Re: Re: Re: Does DC want Tyson Nuñes? Thanks for the details. And, if they're talking that kind of transfer fee and he's dreaming of a salary within a country mile of that, our club might as well end the discussion now.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Does DC want Tyson Nuñes? IMHO, replacing Jaime with an immediate impact type of player isn't going to be easy.
