I wonder, if Chivas gets DP after Guevara fiasco? Hopefully so, maybe they go after Riquelme or Recoba, and Add true international expierence from first class. In return, this could help team increase more fanbase, and not be seen as "just a mexican team".
Chivas does not get a Designated Player slot because their acquisition of Guevara backfired. Each team gets one DP slot; Chivas traded theirs to the Red Bulls. End of story. Before this year, losing a player like Guevara usually resulted in getting an allocation from MLS. There has been talk of doing away with allocations. If that's the case, all Chivas gets from Guevara leaving is cap room. But if MLS is still using allocations, they should get a major one for Guevara leaving. In theory, that allocation can be put towards the cost of acquiring a good player, though no way in hell will it be enough to get a player like Riquelme or Recoba. That would require DP type money and the only way to get one of those DP slots now is to trade for it. In all honesty, what does Chivas USA have that is worth giving up a DP slot for? Chivas would have to gut their team to get the DP slot. It would likely require something like Guzan, Bornstein and the allocation. Not neccesarily those players, but players like that. (Galindo and Kjlestan would likely come up, too.) If you know you can get a player like Riquelme with the DP slot, it might be worth the trade. But if you can't get that elite, top tier player, it's probably not worth gutting your team.
I don't foresee the replenishment of an ill-spent DP by the league. They are not going to fix Chivas' mistake. They may give some other stuff, an allocation, some accomodation, and y'all will get between a quarter-million and $300K off your books (which does in fact clear more than 50%, perhaps as much as 75%, of the room needed to sign a DP; it wouldn't have to be a fire sale....that's the salary of one good player or two mediocre people, who Chivas might well be willing to part with to bring in a name, just as New York was happy to send Wynne packing to make room for Angel). For instance, trading or releasing Suarez would open up exactly the needed salary room. And, even if you won't/can't manage that and/or there is no DP, $250-300K is enough money for a pretty good signing. Plus, the Donovan/Johnson/etc. salary "grandfathering" will be an issue that will have to be revisited next year, especially Donovan in LA, and that might lead to the creation of a second DP (lest Beckham's wingman leave him), which would have the side benefit of being an effective fix of Chivas' mistake.
Yes, and I remember his name in some rumors concerning CDCUSA, with Guevara gone and Ramirez retiring, really makes you wonder why Guevara left so abruptly and Ramon finally decided to go and relax on his Lazy-boy, could it be that Figo E-mailed Cue "Im available" ?, maybe wishful thinking, but I doubt Cue/Vergara were going to be upstaged by the LA Girls. Im sure some "arrangements" can be done, remember the "golden rule" boys: When you have the gold, you make the rules...
Who do you think we are the Galaxy? Special rules can only be created for one team in this league(Beckham & Donovan).
