I only watch one scripted show (Friday Night Lights) and it hasn't run out of episodes yet. Besides that, there's sports, news, Celebrity Rehab, and Survivor will start up soon. Not to mention real life. If I get bored I'll pick up a DVD set of a show I never bothered to watch in the first place.
It's kind of a double-edged sword situation for me: I do miss the scripted shows that I watched before, but at the same time I actually seem to have more time to accomplish other things like I generally do during the summer. Among the scripted shows I really miss, though, is The Unit, which has been on a major roll from near the end of last season and all the way into this season (before it ran out of filmed episodes)! -G
At this moment, nope don't miss "TV" Monk and Psych have new episodes and I have shows on TIVO that I haven't seen. I could hold out till fall.
I'm spending alot more time in the Booty thread in FFA. Actually I'm digging the Discovery/Times channel, the Independant Films movie channel, and TRU TV what used to be Court TV. I'm doing fine without the mainstream BS.
I wish i could say ive been using the time constructivly but in reality ive just been spending more time online lol. Cant wait till Lost and prison break to come back!
I'm gonna REALLY miss it after watching the 8th episode of Lost and knowing there aren't anymore. and I'd really like some new 30 Rock, but really I'm fine. a new Survivor is coming up. I'll survive, but I'd rather they just settled this stupid strike.
Between what the local library, Netflix, and our storage on DVR has, I'll easily make late March without batting an eye, and by that time our annual purchase of the MLS Direct Kick package will kick in and I won't have time for much more. Where I'll miss TV is probably about a year from now when the lag in production really becomes clear. Now? Nope.
This is likely to have as much effect as the musician's strike of the mid-40's. That really KO'd big bands.
I began watching less and less TV after I got married. Between classes and our baby, we watch nearly zero television anymore, although my wife watches Project Runway when I'm in class (and I'd watch it too, if I were at home). Sometimes we'll watch British mysteries at the end of the week. Do I miss it? Fuck no! The conclusion I reached a long time ago was this: the more TV you watch, the more you feel like watching; the less TV you watch, the less TV you feel like watching. TV creates a feedback loop. It makes me cringe now to think that I once felt addicted to those stupid Law & Order shows. Moreover, although Tivo supposedly makes television time more efficient by eliminating commercials, I would guess that the long-term result is more time in front of the TV, as the "subscription" feature likely causes viewers to feel more obligated to watch the programs they've saved. This is just a hunch. It also disturbs me to see how many people have responded to the lack of new programs resulting from the writer's strike by . . . reading more books? Getting more exercise? Spending more time with one's family? No, of course not: they respond by watching other TV shows, even if they don't particularly enjoy them. I mean, seriously . . . Celebrity Rehab?!!??! That's how you want to spend your limited free time? I honestly can't think of a more worthless activity.
I watch a lot of TV, but the only shows I'm TRULY missing are 24 and Scrubs. Of course, The (not A) Daily Show and The Colbert Report should be extra good tonight.
