I think Klinsmann is the continuation of clueless Bob. I'm not yet convinced at all of his strategies and I think he is just a printed copy of Bob Bradley. I think we need a coach with a completely new vision and who can stop calling the same second division players or unknown players in Europe. He is now looking a mexican or mexican american players to find a solution. Notice that these mexican players were very close to pick Mexico over USA, but because they did not get the call, they ended up being picked by clueless Klinsmann. Mr Klinsmann needs to raise his standards or leave our national team.
JK has stated his reasoning behind his player selection is about who's in form and who's in preseason. Though there are some vets that are in preseason included so... He does state MB isnt included b/c of a muscle strain He claims Jozy isnt because he picked up a knock in his game with AZ He didnt say it, but Dempsey is in route of finding a new team Alan Gordon confuses me when you have Pontius available. I'm not excited about the up coming game, but at least he explains the method to his madness. and to answer your question, no it's not time to fire JK. Qualifications have started and we have 4 points including a road draw. No need to fly off the handle bars yet
No. And I clearly don't like what he is doing, but firing him right now will accomplish little to nothing. You just don't fire to fire someone when things aren't completely as you want. You had better have a clearly better candidate lined up, and those are few and far between. Otherwise you get Norv Turner and you continue to spin your wheels.
no, tbh I think we've made a lot of progress under him, and we have become much more of a team that is proactive rather than reactive, even when we are playing defensively, which is a big difference from the bob bradley era (at least the years I watched). I think his personnel decisions and tactics at times have been questionable, but then again I don't think you'll ever make personnel decisions that will make everyone happy. From what I can tell he likes versatility, he isn't really into specialists or players built for one role (which is why i feel he has a large amount of guys like jermaine jones, michael bradley, etc) in his midfield. He wants his fullbacks to be able to attack, and I feel like he puts a bit more priority on the attacking part than the defensive part in that regard, which is partly why I think castillo has been called up often and he seemed to have no issues moving fabian johnson back to LB. He likes centerbacks that can pass out of the back and help out in possession. I don't know what he likes in a striker, since at first he seemed to like the hold up striker in the altidore and terrence boyd role, but recently has had gomez deployed at a lone striker and he seems to fit a seperate mold. Honestly I think this question becomes more interesting if we struggle in the september qualifiers. If we barely manage to qualify out of our group and get to the hex, and especially if we don't qualify, I think we should evaluate klinsmann and decide if he really is the right man for the job. And tbh, I hope if we do go in another direction we still look for a guy who's into an attacking style rather than a bob bradley style, since I think it's a much more marketable style of play to the casual fan and honestly much more enjoyable to watch.
Given the money Klinsmann would walk away with in a contract termination, we'd be lucky to get Josh McDaniels afterwards.
I'm confused. He named a bunch of Mexican-Americans to this recent roster because the game is in Mexico...............and he struggled to get players from MLS (in playoff push) and Europe (first week of season). Plus, other than Orozoco-Fiscal................I don't have a problem with any of those inclusions. Here's the deal. When Klinsmann became coach, we didn't magically have a different player pool. The American version of Xavi or Zlatan Ibrahimovic didn't appear with Jurgen when he was appointed. That's why it seems like a continuation. For the most part the best players in our pool under Bradley, are still our best players. Plus, the USSF isn't exactly known for pulling an early plug on it's coaches. Since 1991 we've had 5 coaches (Milutinovic, Sampson, Arena, Bradley, Klinsmann). Since 1991 Mexico has had 14 coaching changes. The USSF just operates differently. We allow our coaches a bit of time to implement their vision and strategy. Will Klinsmann's be successfull? I have no idea. But I'd bet you he's going to have until the 2014 World Cup.
No. Though I perhaps think you should do a little more thinking before posting. For the most part, there is a good explanation for everyone on the roster and who is not. As others have stated, Euro clubs hate this August date so much it has been abolished as a FIFA date, as it is right before the season starts. JK knows what the older guys can do (Boca, Gooch, Dolo), let the get established with their clubs, let them rest as much as possible, we'll need them come WCQ time. We should be nursing the older players through this cycle, not calling them in for every single midweek friendly and then flying them back across the pond to play on the week-end. IF they are going to be useful for WCQ and possibly Rio, this is the way to approach it. Players with new teams, or possibly going to a new team or fighting for spots would in most cases be excluded, and rightfully so. So, no Dempsey for this reason. Lichaj is fighting for a spot at Villa, that is more important. And don't you remember the whole hubub with Jozy and AZ last year? Maybe we just relented this time. But Gomez is a good replacement for this game, because He plays in Mexico and is used to playing at altitude (if not regularly) more than the Euros. The Mexican players are familiar with the Mexican players (most of whom play in Mexico) and the style of play, and some even play at altitude. For this reason, I have no problem with Castillo, Orozco Fiscal, Corona, Beasley, and Gomez being on the team. I think that is smart. Some MLS players are in a playoff push, and may explain some of the absences, though I think Pontius is a bit of a head-scratcher. Other than that, I don't really see any horrid omissions. We need to start looking for other RB and CB options, and JK has done that. The roster still has plenty of NT veterans or guys who would start normally (Howard, Donovan, Johnson, Jones, Torres) or have been regular calls under JK (Beckerman, Williams, Edu, Wondo, Castillo, Shea, Orozco Fiscal) or recent ones (Corona, Cameron). Really, the only real shockers were Besler and Beithasour, and we need to start looking at CB's and RB's, so I'm OK. And remember, this IS a friendly. I know it is Mexico, but still, a friendly nonetheless. There should be some experiments. So while there was one head scratching omissions (Pontius) and inclusions (why take Cameron when he just transferred and why take Shea when he's been crap lately?) for the most part, I think we have a pretty well thought out roster, with mostly familiar faces, and 8 guys who have been starting pretty frequently over the last 2 years (Howard, Donovan, Johnson, Jones, Torres, Beckerman, Edu, and Williams). Not a full strength team, but hardly a bunch of unfamiliar faces.
Peckerman, even if he didn't speak English (does BB speak Arabic?), would have been superior to JK. But we are stuck with JK now until the WC. He certainly has a lot of confidence for someone who doesn't know what he's doing.
I like Peckerman a lot and he did a great job with Argentina but he wouldn't have been superior to JK.
no thats silly. I'm still a fan of JK but i find some of his player selections puzzling. Whats the point of bringing in some of the players he has when they are not international quality. I'm not going to pick on any players but there are at least 4 players on the roster for Mexico that have no business being there.
Like others, I think JK has the full cycle pass or fail, but should he get axed due to poor results down the line in qualifying, we will likely see the federation revert to the Bradley era. Not Bob, but someone likely close to the program during his tenure. Also, a cheap hire could come from the MLS.
The shortlist? Jeez, I don't know. Almost everyone else has something going on and I have a feeling that guys like Arena and Bradley would give a big middle finger to the USSF and say something like "Told you so." Off the top of my head (and I'm not advocating these guys one way or the other) I would say the shortlist is something like (in no particular order): Sigi Nowak Bradley Arena Kreis Yallop Nicol Kinnear Edit: Actually, I think Arena would love to come in riding on his horse in that kind of scenario. The chance to "save" the team would be great for his ego IMO.
