I was just wondering if there is any specific team that the Wizards have a rivalry with, or a team that you dislike their fans or something like that. For example - as a DC fan, I hate the Metros, don't want to lose to LA, and don't want to lose to Chicago. Those teams in particular are teams that I feel are must wins. Do you guys have any specific teams you feel that way about?
I personally hate LA a lot (thought I think the rest of the league thinks that way to), its also nice winning against Chicago
There's a couple different teams we have "rivalries" with. I think the biggest rivalry we have is with LA. The players hate each other and the fans (at least on the Wizards end) hate the team. Most of it stems back from the MLS Cup semi's in 2000. The team that I hate the most is Chicago. I'd take a loss to LA 5 times if I could just beat a good Chicago team once in Chicago. Their players suck, their fans suck, their stadium sucks, everything sucks about them. The original Wizards rivalry is with Dallas dating back to the first few years in the league. So some of the original hardcore fans from '96-'98 still have a huge hatred towards them. The natural rival, KC and Colorado (I say natural because of the hatred the cities have for each other because of the Chiefs vs. Broncos rivalry) really has never amounted to much. But that's pretty much it with the exception of KC and Columbus who have that sibling rivalry thing going.... wanting to beat each other for daddy's affection (Lamar Hunt's). But I'll usually pull for them when they are playing someone, usually because I hate most of the teams in the east as well as most of the teams in the west, so there's not many teams that I don't root against.
The problem is - nobody really sees as a "rival". We were working up a very nice rivalry with Dallas the first two years, but then Chicago/Dallas overtook that. We have the on-field history to have a rivalry with LA, but we're just a small hick town to most LA fans, and not worthy of rival status. They'd rather have a rivalry with Chicago, DC, or New York. Oh well. In other words, we don't really have a blood rival. I think if Dallas fans or LA fans, or even Chicago fans took a good hating towards us, then we'd probably have one. Santos Laguna - if we keep playing them - could eventually be a rival!
LA. hate hate hate the LA galaxy. When Tyrone Marshall was traded there the two things i hate most in MLS were put together. well, actually the one thing i hate the most is the way the players treat the refs (shameful) and the way the refs officiate the games (total hacks). Lalas, Califfe, SA-SHA, the arrogant, diving hispanic forward of the day (luis H. or ruiz), the bug (cienfuegos), and the rest of the jerks on that team. Can't stand 'em. Love it when they come to town just so i get to yell at them.
To the tune of the song written by the guy who also did the song about midjets... er uh Short People. I Hate LA... I hate it!!! I also enjoy any win against Chicago a little more than most. More due to KC's complete defensive breakdown tenedencies we have against them than to any player personality conflicts. Can't say the same for LA. What a bunch of prix with a silver spoon in their mouth. Players, cap relief, major foreign signings allocated/handed to them each year and even now a stadium. About time they finally got a real cup. I hope the league hurries up and gets the MetroThugs one so that we can maybe someday get back to a level playing field between the MLS, written in pencil, rules committee and the teams. The rest of the MLS teams haven't been arrogant a$$holes when I've seen them play. Just good competitive spirit with the exception of Serna w/Fusion but that issue/team took care of itself.
Stop.. i'm taking a wiz !! We dont hate you anymore.... But if you bring back digital takiwira ** It's on Baby !! **
Who was it that fell in the line of duty in one of the Santos Laguna games? Maybe Chris Klein? I can't remember for sure but I was pissed that we lost someone to injury because of foul play. I don't know if it would be considered a rivalry but there is definite bad blood between the KC Wizards and the KC Brass (PDL) after their exhibition game last year that got a little nasty. I don't think you'll see them play anytime soon.
