Poor Javi, he was a little sour that he didn't join Real Madrid earlier. Don't you worry big man, there will be a repeat next year!
If Javi Martinez was to make the move in the summer. Do you think that he would be able to immediately and comfortably slot in the centre midfield position besides Xabi? I say this because each time I've watched Bilbao this year, he's been playing at centre back (I'm assuming this has been a recurring thing throughout the season and not just against the bigger teams), and could have got a bit too used to playing strictly defence.
Man, like a wise man once said, "he only has to better than Khedira and that's not really asking a lot."
A Few transfers are necessary. First off, these players gotta go: Kaka Albiol LAss Carvahlo Hamit When 5 players go, replacements are necessary. Hopefully, we see 1 of those spots filled with a Castilla player or a former one coming back off loan. Next, it's obvious that an RB, CB and a midfielder + attacking midfielder are necessary to fill up the holes. The RB should be starter quality, the CB should be backup behind Ramos/Pepe/Varane and midfielder needs to be starter quality. Another option, which is my favorite, is Varane to starting CB, Ramos back to RB, and get another backup/starter RB/CB. The main weakness of this team this year was midfield. This is because neither one of Alonso or Khedira are the possession oriented, build up the attack through the middle with passing/dribbling/creativity, type of players. If you're dead set on playing Alonso, then the other player should be a player able to retain possession, make those driving runs/dribbles through the middle of the pitch and at times slice in those defense cutting passes. A player with these qualities is obviously very hard to find, unless Iniesta wants to head over to Madrid. So in my opinion, either you play a 4-3-3, or you give players like Sahin a real chance to play next to Alonso. Khedira+Alonso will never win this team a CL trophy in my opinion. I don't care if you want to call it bad luck versus Bayern this year, but it was obvious to me who deserved to go through and it wasn't Madrid. Against Barca as well, it is still obvious to me which team is better and it's not Madrid. The reason is that these 2 in midfield get absolutely murdered against good opposition and this team has zero chance of bossing midfield. When you lose midfield, your defense looks like shite and players like Ronaldo/Benz/Higuain can only score through individual brilliance.
There is a report from Portugal (El Record) claiming that there is an agreement between Benfica and Real regarding Witsel transfer to Real. The report suggests that Madrid will pay 40M minus 8-10M for a two-year lease of Jese to Benfica. http://www.as.com/futbol/articulo/record-acuerdo-caballeros-witsel-jese/20120503dasdasftb_26/Tes
Athletic weren't even trying, Javi got a red and he still looked better than Sami I would have liked "Javi Martinez is brutally overrated" -- The transfer thread. Just kidding 4x4s
^ Can I remind you that we started playing some of our best football this year when Ramos was moved to the centre back position? And this was not because we erased his errors from the right back position but because he has been good enough to keep in the centre (imo at least). Edit: To plyka
20 for Di María, 30 for Coentrão and now 40 for Witsel. Next year we'll be buying Aimar for 50 million!
When I envisioned us upgrading our midfield I'm not sure the likes of Witsel and Biglia were who I had in mind Hopefully these, especially Biglia, are just rumors
Has anyone seen athletic's twitter? IDK if it's official but @Athletic_eng just tweeted: So yh, no Javi this summer guys. Link to the twitter acc, https://twitter.com/#!/Athletic_eng
Ronaldo has mixed it up with current and future teammates before, Rooney and Marcelo for example. If this sort of heat of the moment sh*t talk is enough to make us not sign him then I don't know what to think. Maybe our Spanish Internationals should "unfriend" him on Facebook or not sit next to him at team meals this summer as a show of solidarity for Cristiano?
Ok well I did some digging and it turns out the twitter account belongs to some angry fanatic. So everyone can unrustle their jimmies. Just as a side note, it does look like there is some bad blood between the two.
Wouldn't read too much into it. I remember Ron grabing Marcelo by his neck in a BRA vs POR match, and now they are basicaly BFF.
Your jimmies seemed to be the only ones rustled by the whole thing I would think after the Oezil Twitter fiasco folks would be more cautious of posting Twitter accounts as credible sources, silly me I guess
Whats peoples opinions on buying Sarabia back if Castilla get into Adelante and playing him there? Can't be any worse than the pos minutes he is getting at Getafe not to mention also being played out of position :/ Had high hopes for that kid.
To be fair I didn't imply it was a 'credible source'... In fact I explicitly questioned its legitimacy. Passive aggression is an ugly colour, no one wears it well.

Nice post. I really like Kaka...huge fan and I appreciate how he's fought back to have a pretty good season. But, if we get rid of him in the offseason I'll understand. Lass and Albiol's time is up and Carvalho was a great signing last year but his time is near up. At this point I too don't think the Alonso-Khedira pairing is not the answer. I'm not a fan of the double holding mid lineups. I do think we're a better team with Alonso in the lineup, so maybe Khedira falls to being his backup. Marcelo has really broken out a bit this year, and I love when he's in the game. He also looks to be pretty settled in a midfield spot, where we can use his speed and runs more efficiently. Our offense clearly is okay. We're getting goals from just about everyone up front. The question is will we be able to hold on to Benzema and Higuain. There was talk earlier in the season that both would be offseason targets for English teams. I think the key targets for us should be shoring up the defense and maybe figuring out someone to pair alongside Alonso, though as you said Sahin could fill that role.
