They give the deal a ringing endorsement. http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/city/collin/stories/031603dnedidallasburneditorial.5a50a.html
One odd thing about the editorial is that while it discusses HSG's lease in some detail, it fails to mention Hunt's contribution to the SSS's construction costs. Let's hope Frisco citizens have read some of the earlier articles and realize that HSG will fund $10 million of the $65 million project. I wouldn't want folks to get the impression that Hunt is some freeloader millionaire who isn't willing to pay his fair share of construction costs.
It figures that the Only Daily Paper in Dallas would decide to suggest a built-in clause to raise your price. I mean, what other entity saw it's only competitor (Dallas Times Herald) in the region fold, give them a giant windfall, and then raise their prices? Why the DMN of course. I was also entertained at their decision to let McKinney off the hook. Sorry guys, what is good for Frisco would have been better for McKinney, they just were too McKinney to see it.
"We raise one question: Why not include an inflation escalation clause so that the rent will go up over time with inflation? In 10 or 15 years, $100,000 likely will be worth a whole lot less." They can pipe down about this. A pretty good write up considering the economic times and the backlash you hear about about gov't funded stadiums. I suppose the main difference here as opposed to NFL stadia is that the iSD uses teh stadium for free and 17 youth fields also get built. If this gets built, God willing, my guess is 3 or 4 years from now McKinney is going to be really jealous. Did this editorial make the printed paper?
