What's going on at Hopkins? I heard a few names but that seemed like weeks ago. For an AD that appears to have wanted more from her women's soccer coach, she doesn't seem to be in any hurry...
No reason to look outside the current staff if you are the Williams AD...the program is on an incredible run. As long as the current roster liked the asst coach, there was no problem to fix. Must be a completely different situation at Hopkins because the lead assistant has been there even more years than the Williams new hc and he’s no longer in the mix. Hopkins AD wants as much distance as possible from the old regime. I bet there’s an announcement soon. Like now.... https://hopkinssports.com/news/2020/2/19/dan-weiler-named-head-womens-soccer-coach.aspx Guess there’s an opening at CNU.
Weiler is an excellent hire for JHU. He did an incredible job in his seven years at Christopher Newport. With JHU being a Tier 1 institution, the recruiting aspect may be an adjustment for him. He will be targeting a different student-athlete demographic than he did at CNU.
Dan will be good at Hopkins as long as they aren't expecting Final 4s year after year. He'll be great recruiting there sooner than later. CNU should let the long time assistant have a go. They named him interim but then say they will start a "national search". Which, as we know, is just an ad on the ncaa market. CNU is a big budget State school with football but the conference is dissolving. The privates all around them in D3 and D2 don't want them so will be interesting to see what happens. Salisbury in a similar situation.
Agree on the hire being a good one! Dan has proven he can win wherever he goes but he will be recruiting and coaching a much different student athlete at this stop.
