    Just gotta love it I suppose. Ian Dark who is commenting on the France v South Africa match just said the SA player was too honest and should have went down to earn the penalty. Few minutes later he admitted it is cheating but then tried to justify why it should be done.

    I'm confused now. So Diving is what we want when it's in the box? :confused:

    Cheating is Cheating no matter where it is or how it's done!

    No he didn't. He said the RSA player would have better off going down, but it wouldn't have been a dive. He was fouled but managed to stay on his feet. Either way, he wasn't condoning it, just pointing it out.

    not going down gives the advantage to the guy fouling dosnt it?

    not in that specific case since I didnt see it, but in general

    there is a difference in going down while being fouled and just diving when no contact has been made

    Isn't that the same thing? "Better off Going down" and "too honest and should have went down to earn the penalty", which by the way, he did say.

    That's the problem in today's football world. If he doesn't go down, he wasn't fouled then but they go down like dominos every chance they get.

    He did condone when he first said it but someone probably whispered something into his ear piece what he said and he then added the cheating part to it a few minutes later.

    The problem here is, you have people watching the World Cup and you want them to understand the game and hopefully become full time supporters but when people who don't know Football/Soccer very well, this isn't the way to go about it. Just saying...

    triplesevn;
    The point being made by posters is that if it is a foul it is not cheating (dishonest) to make that foul more obvious to the referee.
    Diving and pretending there was a foul is cheating and dishonest.

    I understand that it would be better to encourage players to try and stay on their feet when clipped but the question is how can we do this when often this is less beneficial than getting a penalty?

    Darke was pointing out the irony of the situation. Had he gone down, he would of got a PK. By doing the honest thing and staying on his feet, he gets penalized.
    1. I don't think it's cheating (if there is a foul and the guy goes down, how can one honestly tell if the player could have stayed on his feet? I'll answer the question. You can't. Nobody can. So even if it is cheating, you can't enforce it--nobody can read minds and know exactly what the player's intent is).
    2. You are taking what Darke said too literally. He wasn't saying "what an idiot why didn't he go down to get the PK". Instead he was pointing out to the viewer that this is one of those rare times when just falling down would have been better for the team.
