Disney is a really big company. No doubt some of their divisions and investments do better than others. The analysis goes deeper than any of us could care to know is my guess and relates to all sorts of internal dealings within their company.

    Pretty simple:

Disney's tired of losing lots of money on the Ducks and Angels, this season's surprise baseball success notwithstanding. The TV network's doing a lot better than those two separate franchises.

Does this mean baseball won't be a Mickey Mouse sport any more?

You need to understand that they don't "push baseball" Just because you don't like it doesn't mean millions of others aren't watching.

They make a fortune on their cable properties. People want to watch these programs (and events) so much that they can charge the cable companies a fortune, more than double CNN or any network. They don't make money paying 8 figure salaries to baseball players. No contradiction. A better question is why in the world they would want to actually own any teams. Furthermore, they have garbage teams (in terms of brand value).

This is no surprise, they've wanted to get out of owning pro sports for a couple of years now. I'm happy, Disney has shown that they don't know how to run jack squat when it comes to owning pro sports. The Ducks sold out every game the 1st few seasons and sold the most merchandise of any team in the NHL, and now are last in attendance. Disney figures the product will sell themselves, such as Edison Field, the Arrowhead Pond, and Paul Kariya.

But they have shown improvements this past year, with the great Angels success and the Ducks signing and trading for decent players.

But they're still better than Donald Sterling.

most owners that make good money off their teams, make the most when they sell their team

they might lose money from operating it, but when the sell it, they will make a nice profit

We should all be very happy. Owners that aren't commited to winning and are instead focused on turning a profit, are in the wrong line of business. Sports franchises have a very slim margin of profit and require a heavy handed effort to make them work.

And will the Mighty Ducks get a real name?

Or will Emilio Estevez become their new coach?

What's wrong with Anaheim? I like it better as there are 4 other teams in California. Also, Anaheim is their home city, the largest city in Orange County, and one of the most recognizable cities in this country thanks to Disneyland.

Well they should really move to Chavez Ravine and change their name to the Los Angeles Angels. Since somebody has to get their head and their ass wired together and move the Dodgers back to Brooklyn, where they belong. Damn it.

I wouldn't say that ESPN is really pushing hockey.

If every American cricket team went back to their original city and kept their current nickname, it would be very interesting. Like the Baltimore Yankees, Boston Braves, St Louis Orioles, ...

I had to walk 15 miles, uphill, in a blizzard, just to get to that damn stadium. Well, I guess it all began back in Austria, where they called lunchboxes Sweedish suitcases. Anyhow, I had to chase that rascly Kaiser all over the countryside, and, and, *snore*............................
