For hundreds of years, World Rivalries has been the bastion of free speech on Big Soccer, which is otherwise a watered-down, overly moderated board where moderators search by the second for, god forbid, a curse word that an adult has heart forty thousand times throughout his lifetime.

The "normies", as we call them, look down on World Rivalries, but only because their lives are boring, witless, empty existences. They don't understand that World Rivalries is a place where people can enjoy themselves without becoming offended (because it is well known on the board that if one is offended, he has LOST THE GAME). Insulting one's country, nationality, hell, even race (to an extend that is reasonably accepted by the forum members) has always been accepted, along with a strong amount of (mostly ironic) homophobia.

One thing that has also existed is a very warranted level of religious discussion (if that is indeed the word that one would use); because, on WR, the law has always held that NOTHING is sacred.

Recently, however, perhaps due to a few overzealous (ignore the irony of the word) posters, some have taken offense, and now the discussion of religion has been banned.

Does this not violate the very reason of the existence of World Rivalries? Have not those offended LOST the GAME? World Rivalries has never been a place where those who have LOST the GAME could complain to the moderators and have the strategy banned!

Is it not true that, if one truly believes his beliefs, he should be able to defend them? Is it not true that if one truly believes his beliefs, he should have no fear of the reproach of others?

The world has become a pathetic realm of political correctness where people are afraid to discuss their opinions for fear of realizing that they are unjustified. But is this NOT the exact OPPOSITE of logic, reason, and opinion? Does this not IGNORE a healthy manner of self examination? Does this not allow one to hold a belief but have no shame in ignoring its possibility of incorrectness?

As a society, we must work towards a life where not a single opinion goes unexamined, not a single thought goes questioned. Instead, we are inching towards the idea that one is HONORABLE and PROTECTED for refusing to examine his opinions!

While the vast majority of the brainless drones of Big Soccer look down and despise World Rivalries for what they believe to be a lack of "tact" or "class", it is obvious to those who frequent it that it is actually a bastion of free speech and self-examination! Now, this is being compromised by those who have fear of looking inwardly at themselves and at their opinions.

This MUST be prevented! No man has ever been improved by a refusal to examine himself!

I hear ya. If Canadian plastics and Brasilian transexuals are allowed to be slagged on, then why not religious people? They're even crazier and goofier than said plastics and trannies.

The fact that religious nuts still exist is disturbing, but I don't think they should get any special treatment over any other alternative lifestyles.

lol, you'll have to since that's where you put all my posts. Since clearly I'm the one that pissed you off so bad, perhaps if I agree not to talk shit about religion you'll chill out?

Let it be known that while I support freedom of discussion of opinion on WR, that doesn't mean I by default support any comment with regards to religion. I, for example, wouldn't support a comment like "All people who are religious are rapists".

I have no idea what NMMatt posted, so I don't know to defend it specifically or not, but my problem here is the banning of all religious discussion.

Umar, even if he was heavy handed and overly insulting towards religion, does that justify the banning of all discussion whatsoever? If one broke out the n word and other racial slurs, does that mean one can't make a "Mexicans do landscaping" joke?

Banning entire topics of discussion for one set of comments is not justified in my opinion.

Meh you saw the worst of what I wrote. What I said in the Muslim thread is what pissed him off enough to bin everything else I've written since.

About the only thing I've said since is that he should quit crying about it.

Don't be weak. The ban is already in place. We gotta have it lifted if other lifestyles are gonna be fair game.

In all honesty, I find the blatent homophobia, while kitchy and fairly jokey, to be ABSOLUTELY more of a grievance than religion, and in all honesty, think it's a joke that religious talk would be banned before that sort of thing!

In my opinion both should stay as neither should be taken seriously. But how can one justify being able to call somebody a fàggot as opposed to a religious nutjob?

True. The funny thing about this, to me at least, is that you and I have said far worse shit about each other over ethnicity and neither of us came here crying about it or had the mods make new rules.

I suspect, however, that the admins will take this as an opportunity to ban everything if Umar doesn't get over it soon. Hence my offer to leave him alone.

Your offer is pointless, though, since the rule is now in place. Even if you tried to bug him, he'll just bin your posts now.

umar is simply abusing his power. Which is sad, cos he seems to be a smart guy, so he shouldn't be religious at all in the first place.

Help what? I had no involvement in what led to the new rule. But I disagree with it. Join the protest.

There are no bigger idiots than Americans in this world.

Hence, if these stupid Americans were banned from these forums, there would be no problems, and bigsoccer in general would be more enjoyable for everyone else.

So if my religion is the belief that raping infants is the one true path to God, why do I not get the same treatment as those from other religions? When my religion would be JUST as justifiable reasonably and logically?

    Hypocrisy is fun, isn't it?

Religious people can't be smart. Got it.

Funny. I'm wearing my yellow card because some non-Americans, at least one anyway, complained.

    BTW - It's an American owned/operated website.

If they were smart, they wouldn't be religious.

I wasn't referring specifically to you. If you indeed got an yellow card just for that reason, then its unfortunate.

Please, let's try to keep the actual discussion of whether or not one can be intelligent if he is religious tabled for now and discuss more whether it's justifiable to ban the discussion of it.

Sadly, this is the world we live in. I knew this ban would come some day. In the Madrid - Barca rivalry thread rule #1 is "If you can't take it, don't dish it." Rule #2 is: "No racist or religious attacks. "

Yes, that's right. Rule number f---ing TWO! And look what it shares #2 with: Racism! WTF?

One of the main justifications for this ban that was mentioned is that it is simply not funny. I call bullshit! If I believed the Earth was flat, I'm sure people would have a field day on me. And it would be flippin’ hilarious to onlookers. Now here's the best bit: I (even if I’m in the minority) wouldn't be bothered in the slightest. After all it’s my belief! You’re not insulting something I don’t have control over, such as my skin colour. I would just believe that everybody poking fun at me were the idiots.

Sam Lakey's comment about the Easter Bunny a few years back was one of the funniest things I ever read on this forum (not the one that was just quoted, but his post before that).

For the record, I was the one that binned those two threads so divert the crying to me. It is possible to contribute something funny based on religion but sadly some of the more recent posts and threads were simply put out there to offend. Anyone that disputes that is full of it. Even though WR is the last bastion of whatever, this is still a public site and with that some things need to be dialed down. If you can be witty with religion then have at it but as stated, leave the hateful comments to sites like stormfront. It really isn't asking much. As Antonio said in another thread, be smart about it
