Klinsmann simply didn't believe in extensive tactical preparation. That has nothing to do with a lack of desire to win, which he did do with the US.

Deserves to be in the convo, but:
    1. he's not a former NT player
    2. he has no European experience.

Why does having Euro experience matter? Bradley didn't have euro experience and he did a good job.

You'd want to pose that to USSF who seemed to have locked in on Cherundolo and Renard.

I wouldn't have an issue with those two but I don't want people to be putting down MLS coaches. Jurgen was a top hire but he ended up having poor results anyways.

Folks will put down MLS because MLS is a 2rd tier league.

At this point fans want a top tier manager. If you mention getting a manager from MLS, 2BL, LigaMX, SPL, Seri B, Belgium, Denmark, Turkey, ... most will be disappointed and believe the federation lacks ambition.

That dudes take is embarrassing nationalistic BS. He thinks the players would have to learn French if we hired him. Straight clown.

Ah yes, the man who said we couldn’t win the World Cup provided us with a desire to win, a thing we were lacking.

Just so nobody misunderstands the nuance of that statement; As I and others have posted over the years if you look at the Behind The Crest and other USSF videos from that time period they prove that there was extensive tactical prep done. It was usually the 3rd session of the notorious 3 a days during Klinsmann tenure that many complained was "over training". Players got dossiers, Powerpoints, and detailed analytics on each and every opponent and how we wanted to attack and defend them.

Klinsmann never did the detailed tactical sessions himself. That task was usually performed by an assistant manager (usually Andi ) and or the scout for that region.

I think a lot of this is just speculation. It seems pretty clear they’ve reached out to Cherundolo to gauge interest but not sure it’s gone much beyond that as I imagine they’re still in the state where they’re figuring out who is interested and who isn’t.

I’d also note for the USWNT job three names leaked and ir seemed like it was going to be one of them and then they pulled Emma Hayes out of nowhere.

Not saying it won’t ultimately be Cherundolo or Renard but it still feels early in the process since Klopp said no and there’s no a clear sure fire candidate. You’d want to have discussions with all the potential candidates as to what their vision for the team is.

Seems Hayes's name had been floating around though not quite in the manner of Gregg's.

Klinsmann made knockouts in '14. Out of a group that included Portugal, Germany, and prime Ghana. He then took peak Belgium to extra time. He made knockouts of the Copa, in which he made Semis. He had a successful run. The '18 WCQing failure wasn't on him.

And we were lucky to beat Ghana and then fortunate that they were refusing to practice because of a pay dispute. And were completely listless and did nothing against Germany.

We were also incredibly lucky to make it to extra time with Belgium. We were badly outplayed and that’s not a performance to brag about.

The 2016 Copa was more about a favorable draw than anything else and he’s also the person most directly responsible for our failure to qualify.

Let’s not forget the number of players from that era who have all implied Klinsmann didn’t give much in the way of tactical instruction and they had to figure things out on themselves.

Let’s not forget he also cut Landon Donovan over a dumb personal animus (something the rest of the team was so upset about that they went to Gulati to try and get him to change the decision).

The man is a complete charlatan and the good things that happened during his tenure were more good luck than anything he did. And that’s been borne out by every coaching stop he’s had since.

For some reason people think he's the best USMNT coach

It’s because he got into it with Don Garber, because of how good a player he is, and because he represents all things about European soccer (and there’s an element of the fanbase that has a massive inferiority complex).

He was also the one who put out the article saying he’d talked to people within USSF and that Crocker would not hesitate to fire Berhalter if he thought it was warranted.
