Beating a Dead Horse: Freddy Adu's Age Alright, I've read every argument for why Freddy Adu is 13 and why he isn't 13. I'm compelled to believe that Freddy Adu is 13. However, as per logic, I took a "what if" approach. Concessions: For the sake of this discussion, the following concessions will be entered as facts. (That is to say, for just this thread, the following things must be considered fact.) -Freddy Adu is NOT 13. He is in fact 2 years older than he stated and is 15. -Freddy Adu will start playing soccer in MLS at his real age of 16 (next season). At the age of 15, Freddy Adu is already making 17 year olds look like fools. He is still the best prospective talent in the US. He scores with people two years older than him and he does it with class. If he plays in MLS for 3 years, he will be exported by the time he is 19, near the same that greats like Michael Owen and David Beckham began to play regular first team football. So people, even if Freddy Adu is a full two years older than he said, he is still amazing. Its not like he is just beating kids younger than him. He'd have to be a full 5 years older than he claims to be to be picking on little 17 year olds. The kids amazing, even if he isn't 13.
Re: Beating a Dead Horse: Freddy Adu's Age don't bother. The United States has look at it and he is officially and legally 13.. It doesnt matter what he looks, acts, sounds, or plays like.... Speculation will do no good. move along..
Re: Beating a Dead Horse: Freddy Adu's Age If Freddy Adu is only going to be as great as the "My Hamstring!" Owen or "What's a left foot?" Beckham, than something is wrong.
According to Grant Wahl and Sports Illustrated, he's 13. from http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/grant_wahl/news/2003/02/27/wahl_soccer/
Lets be patient and WAIT I try to live on the world of REALITY AND FACTS do not really care how old is Freddy ......And for sure I will be watching more of his games because on GUATEMALA MMM ONE GOAL......JOVAN KIROVSKI SCORE 4 AGAINST ARGENTINA ON ARGENTINA
It's only natural to question Freddy's age -- He was what, 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds at 12? I mean that's not unheard-of size, but usually when kids that age shoot up, they don't fill out the way Freddy has. And he has a mannish face for such a young lad. -- He's on track to graduate high school at 14. From the interviews I've read, he's a charming, intelligent kid. And he didn't spend his early years in our Playstation2/McDonald's/FOX TV culture that is largely responsible for the dim, lardbutt kids our country produces these days. But, if you read his quotes there's a maturity in his words that's beyond most adolescents. -- He was born in a third-world country, and call me an ugly American if you will, but a lot of these nations are not known for their record-keeping when it comes to birth certificates, etc. A short list of third-world athletes who fudged their ages includes Luis Tiant, Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez, and future Baseball Hall of Famer Danny Almonte. It may very well be that Freddy is extraordinary in every sense of the word -- precocious physically and intellectually. I hope that's the case. He seems like a fine young man. However, anyone busting my chops or anyone else's for raising the question is just plain wrong. You might not admit it, but it's probably the first thing that popped into your mind when you first saw him.
there are about 25 threads about this, post your remarks in there. can we PLEASE red card any idiot that starts ANOTHER thread about adu's age?
I merge the two Adu age threads that were on the front page of this forum into a single thread. Please check to see if a topic already exists before opening a new thread. Thanks.
Re: It's only natural to question Freddy's age First of all, he is 13 and will be 14 in May. Second of all, this topic has been covered so much on this board that nobdoy really cares about it any more. Its not like what he is doing would be normal at any age, and its been agreed that he is 15 at the oldest. There are also people who grow early and do stop growing when they are 13 or 14. Thirdly, this should be in the youth forum. Also it would be better for Freddy to say he is older than he is becasue he could sign with a team earlier, thus make more money. And even though you give examples of 3rd world athletes who claim to be younger than they really are, they are 100s of kids in the minors who say they are older just so they can sign with a club. Finally, i must repeat the call for red carding anybody who starts a thread about anybody named Adu's age. Doubly so for a troll like this guy who can't even double check some readily availibe facts.
Re: Re: It's only natural to question Freddy's age I think you are being a little harsh about the red card stuff. Getting banned for starting a thread about a player's age? That's not right. Just don't open it up. Look at the title first.
Re: It's only natural to question Freddy's age Only one problem. All those things are only suspicions under association. Nobody has yet to even cite a good motive for Mrs. Adu cheating on age. Until somebody can find some hard facts or at least a good motive then we should just shut up and accept him as a 13 year old.
Re: Re: Re: It's only natural to question Freddy's age I suppose you a right, how about a yellow? Can we all agree on that?
