Funny how you were all bent out of shape in THIS forum over this Gazza crap, but now you don't have the stones to bring the same argument to their forum? Weak, Bill.
Guys (EVERYONE), cut the crap before it gets out of hand. If this turns into another Andy vs. everyone thread, it's getting the lock.
OK....Gazza for Hudson and a Hispanic coach to be named later! We'll throw in Repza to sweeten the deal.
It's apparently NOT a done deal yet... United, Gascoigne Mull Over Options No mention of the compensation to be given to the Crew though
Two things: 1. If Hudson still has questions about Gazza and would like to have him on trial a little bit longer, this usually means that there is something wrong with Gazza, as in maybe his fitness? Perhaps it was the Monte Cristo he was smoking during practice. However, juggling while holding a tumbler of single malt scotch is an impressive skill, this might not be what Hudson had in mind. If Gazza was the real deal, the Hudson would still be creaming his pants and begging for the deal to be done. 2. Why is this contract only going to be through the end of the season? I would suspect that through all the trouble they are going through they would want to keep him around a bit longer. This presents an interesting view of the whole deal. If we get somebody, say Namoff, Nelson, or Reyes (just firing off names), and they only get Gazza for 7 games or so, then the deal looks pretty nice come next season when we still have a player (hopefully one of worth) and they have an empty roster spot.
So now ussocceruk is saying that DC is having trouble acquiring the discovery option. And though Namoff is on his way out they are unsure to which team or even which league. Maybe the Crew has backed out!!! What a screwed up situation.
Maybe Jim Smith actually had the balls to stand up and say, "Hey, we're not going to get screwed. So unless you produce a respectable trade, we're not giving you the discovery option, beotch!"... well, drop the beotch part, and it might be realistic. Maybe Jean Moulin's email gave him the confidence that the fan base was worried and they would be glad if he took a stand.... maybe.
This is theoretical, but it's worth mentioning. Cols could be in negotiations with a player for that last roster spot. Maybe the league figures if they play the heavy here, word may get out to the people around that player that they destroyed the move, not Cols. Such a move could damage "good faith" negotiations in the future as MLS's credibility would've taken a hit. Just a thought. Personally, I'd rather use the discovery option on any U23 player that Mr. Martino or Buddle think would be worth it.
Oh boy - you guys were pissed before - wait until you hear this one. Apparently the Crew front office doesn't want Namoff now - they want Lassiter. I don't trust everything Chris Bergin says but if this comes to fruition I think it gives you every right to burn effigies of the GM. More news is apparently coming in 30
I would rather have Namoff. Wait. Gimme the sack of potatoes. It's touch on the ball is better and won't run offsides 6 times a match. WTF, Jim Smith?
I hope not - he is worth way more than $1M to the league. McBride and Donovan should be the poster boys for MLS all the way up to WC '06
