Overturning the suspension for the Wahl red is a ludicrous decision. That PRO considers that not to be DOGSO is insanity. Sent from my LGLS996 using Tapatalk
I don't understand not suspending or at least fining Ouimette for his tackle on Larin. Scissor tackle from behind. All year that has been a red and a one game suspension. The missed offside call should be irrelevant, as is DOGSO.
http://www.mlssoccer.com/mls-disciplinary-summary/2016/week9/chris-rolfe This seems like a reasonable suspension, but when compared to Grabavoy's tackle a few weeks ago...? It's really hard to tell what criteria they're using.
So is this Gio saying "Really?" as in "That totally didn't deserve a fine!" or is he saying "Really? $250? I wipe my butt with $250 every day...that's not going to stop me from doing anything!"
I suspect it's a combination of both. He probably doesn't think he did anything wrong, but also thinks that a $250 fine makes it even funnier.
I suppose MLS have got a set scale for fines and it's baselined to the salary minimum, in which $250 is not nothing to such a player. I bet MLS wish they had two scales now.... He may have earned himself at least another zero for next time.
Since the amount of the fine is absolutely never made public, there almost has to be an additional punishment for disclosing league business publicly.
Funny how I don't hear anything about Will Johnson ... He basically had 0% chance of getting to that ball. He goes in with the only objective of creating contact. Keeper gets rushed into ambulance and to the hospital. If that was De Jong or some universally disliked player everyone would be losing their shit. I wonder if Johnson gets a pass because he's an MLS lifer and he's "our" hack .... This is not the first time that guy has been unnecessarily violent and reckless.
I think you are being a bit harsh in saying that "He goes in with the only objective of creating contact." You have no way of knowing that. And, in my opinion, the ball was hanging up in the air for a while and he has as much right to the ball as the GK. He certainly ended up late with the contact, but those sorts of collisions with the GK happen from time to time. He didn't go in studs up or elbows flying, so I'm not really sure that you can compare that to the De Jong foul.
I wouldn't compare it to the De Jong foul, but it's a dirty play imo. I have no problem with contact on the keeper in a 50/50 play ... or even 70/30. But in that scenario Gonzalez already had full possession of the ball when contact happened which means Johnson had 0% chance of getting it. Even the most minimal effort to pull out of the challenge would of prevented the keeper from getting hospitalized. To me it looked like the sort of play where the attacker continues their momentum on purpose to make the play as difficult as possible for the keeper. He had plenty of time to bail from the challenge. I don't think he meant to injure, but he was irresponsible and reckless with a hint of premeditation. Will's history only makes me question it even more ...
You seriously think other leagues suspend a guy for taking a ball off the field that is impeding the game? Really? I'd love to see some links to a coach in the Premier League or La Liga getting suspended a game for this scenario. This is obviously not the intent of the rule. Ridiculous.
Ah context. So you're not complaining about the rule, just this implementation of it. Yeah, its a stupid implementation but I said that when it happened earlier this year and a coach was suspended for it. It was also stupid when it happened to Gashi. It was also stupid 4(?) seasons ago when Pareja was suspended for coming on the field to separate a fight (not contribute to it, end it). You think Heath would have learned from all of that though. To MLS's credit a no tolerance policy does take any bias out of it, so that's a point in its favor.
Seriously, I have no problem with the implementation. It's not like this is a new thing either. If you don't understand that you shouldn't go on the field under any circumstances, then you deserve to keep getting suspended for doing so.
Absolutely. Good rule, I don't even have a problem for suspending someone for celebrating on the field that shouldn't be there. But to take two steps on to the field to clear a ball that is impeding play? That seems very extreme. I can't imagine it even crossed the mind of either coach that it would be a problem. They've been in soccer 30, 40 years and all you are doing is keeping the field clear. As a player and as I parent I've done that. It is just what you when there is a ball three feet from you and no one else is around to deal with it.
No, it's not the intent of the rule, but MLS has been consistent with it. Heath is now the fourth person (second on Orlando! He should already know the rule!) this season to have been suspended for it. You'd think people would have learned by now. There's an old saying in Tennessee - I know it's in Texas, probably Tennessee - that says fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me... you can't get fooled again.
"Keep" getting suspended for doing so? To my knowledge, neither Olsen nor Heath have been suspended for violating the idiotic rule previously.
