DisCo Sucks! The 2016 MLS Discipline Committee Thread

So another year another set of reviews of tackles, off the ball incidents and anything else the DisCo deems worthy of their time and effort.

Let's remember this isn't the place to bring in team rivalries and arguments, there are plenty of other places to do that. This if for discussion on the incidents, punishments, etc.

So please try and keep it civil!

I would assume that he was dancin', and singin', and movin' to the groovin'. And just when it hit him, somebody turned around and shouted "play that funky music, white boy".

I love how they stuck him behind the keyboard so nobody would have to watch him dance. They went all out on making him the token white guy.

MLS Disciplinary Committee Decisions: Week 1

NEW YORK (March 10, 2016) – The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended New York Red Bulls defender Ronald Zubar for one game and issued an undisclosed fine for serious foul play that endangered the safety of an opponent in the 47th of the Red Bulls’ game against Toronto FC on March 6 (VIDEO). Zubar will serve the suspension during the Red Bulls’ next MLS match on Saturday, March 12against the Montreal Impact.

The MLS Disciplinary Committee has issued a one-game suspension and undisclosed fine to Christian Bolaños for serious foul play in the 62nd minute of the Vancouver Whitecaps match against Montreal Impact on March 6. Bolaños will serve the suspension during Vancouver’s next MLS match on Saturday, March 12 against Sporting Kansas City. (VIDEO)

In addition, the MLS Disciplinary Committee has issued New York City FC defender Frederic Brillant an undisclosed fine for play violating the league’s policy of hands to the face, head or neck of an opponent in the 52nd minute against the Chicago Fire on March 6 (VIDEO).

On March 6, Houston Dynamo Head Coach Owen Coyle was dismissed by the official in the 90+ minute for irresponsible behavior in the technical area. Subsequently, the Houston Dynamo appealed the dismissal. The appeal was heard by the MLS Disciplinary Committee and upheld, therefore, the punishment has been rescinded and he is eligible to coach in the Technical Area for his next match against FC Dallas on March 12.

MLS Disciplinary Committee Decisions: Week 2

NEW YORK (March 17, 2016) – The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Kianz Froese for one game and issued an undisclosed fine for serious foul play that endangered the safety of an opponent in the 74th minute of the Whitecaps game against Sporting Kansas City on March 12 (VIDEO). Froese will serve the suspension during the Whitecaps’ next MLS match on Saturday, March 19 against Seattle Sounders FC.

The MLS Disciplinary Committee has issued a one-game suspension and undisclosed fine to Shkëlzen Gashi for violating MLS policy when entering the field of play in the 90+minute of the Colorado Rapids match against LA Galaxy on March 12. Gashi will serve the suspension during Colorado’s next MLS match on Sunday, March 20 against D.C. United (VIDEO).

A undisclosed fine has been issued to Columbus Crew SC forward Federico Higuain by the MLS Disciplinary Committee for his violation of league policy for hands to the face/head/neck of an opponent. The contact occurred in the 80th minute of Crew SC’s match against the Philadelphia Union on VIDEO).

In addition, the MLS Disciplinary Committee has issued Real Salt Lake midfielder Sunny Obayan an undisclosed fine for embellishment in the 85thminute against Seattle Sounders FC on March 12 (VIDEO).

On March 11, Chicago Fire staff member Mario Cruz violated MLS policy when entering the field of play in the 54th minute of play. The MLS Disciplinary Committee has issued an undisclosed fine and a one game suspension to Cruz, which will be served during the Fire’s next MLS match on Saturday, March 19 against Columbus Crew SC.

I liked his teammate though - not sure who - running up the sideline as Gashi went across the field. Smart fellow.

I agree, but if it's explicitly stated in MLS policy, then we can't complain too much. The referee can only give him a yellow card for what he did (illegally entering the field of play), but if there's a policy calling for a suspension, then it's his fault (and the Rapids's fault) for not knowing the rules.

I'm not sure if that and other policies are publicly available.

League seems pretty damn serious about getting rid of dangerous tackles. It'll be interesting how long it takes for the players to get the message.

Word is a suspension is coming for Burrito Martinez's late foul on Darlington Nagbe (meaning RSL should have finished with 8 on the field instead of 9).
