The Commonwealth Games have been taking place in Manchester, England for the last two weeks and there has been an interesting innovation. Instead of there being a separate Disabled games, there is instead a number of disabled events that are part of the main games. This means that the Disabled Athletes are competing at the same time as the regular athletes and allso that their medals get counted against the medals tables. Any comments? Personally, I am in favour of this as it means that we will think of the Disabled athletes just in terms of their athletic ability rather than their Disability. Lets face it, someone who goes fast in a wheelchair and competes at the highest level is as much an athlete as someone who runs fast.
