Hold the phone!! $69? Wait, same number of teams, same number of games, = a $20 increase? Hey, maybe when they expand, but why now? Discuss.......
well, it's been discussed to death, but before it was $49 for over a 100 games or about $.45 a game, basically the greatest deal on earth (if you're a MLS fan). toss in the fact that MLS is losing money hand over fist and this is a place where it would seem they could squeeze a few extra bucks out of it, and why the heck not? though of course as a consumer i'd prefer to pay $49. still, i can afford $69 and i ain't complaining.
Maybe the cost of getting the games for rebroadcast via the package changed. ESPN wasn't involved last year, but perhaps this also has something to do with access to the three distributors.
Re: Re: Direct Kick I, too, would prefer to continue paying $49, but... $69 is still a really good value.
I agree it is a good deal, the best as far as these sports subscriptions go, and yes, I will still subscribe rather than watch one game a week on the duece, but ut still seems like a big jump for one year!
$20 spread out over the 8 months of the season is $2.50 extra a month....what were those commericals.. "for just pennies a day you too can help minimum salary MLS players hope that maybe with a little more revenue the league can afford to raise the salary cap next year".........*Camera pans to NY Metrostar's Chris Leitch, and DC United's Bryan Namoff kicking a can back in forth on DC united's crappy run down practice field's outside RFK stadium*
$69 is a bargain. A half-season of the NBA is $99 (so that's almost 200 bucks for an entire season of mostly unwatchable basketball). A half-season of NHL is $109. MLB is relatively cheap: $149 for the whole year if you order before April (and you get a coupon for year's supply of steroids). You can't even order the NFL package unless you have DirectTV.
I just ordered it online from Cox and it was listed at $44.10 (same as last year). Of course they still had it listed as MLS Shootout instead of Direct Kick . So we'll see how much they actually charge me.
Congratulations marty. You're the first to complain about the new price. Of course, this voids your right to complain about the low salary cap, or any other "frugal" expenditure from the MLS owners this year. Deal?
It just got announced. My company hadn't received it's paperwork or software or codes or whatever. Patience, grasshopper.
Totally concur. In fact, that's how I felt about it when I was talking to the clueless, but sweet, customer service lady. But then I saw usagoal's post - also a Cox customer, albeit probably in some other part of the county - and I got...intrigued... Plenty of time though before April 3.
Definetely. I just got my Tivo earlier this week actually with a Home Media Option and I have to say it seriously kicks ass. Anyways, regarding Direct Kick, Comcast doesn't have it on their system yet either. So I'll have to wait a few more weeks before they have it up and running. Oh well.
Anyone with DISH had any luck ordering this yet? I called yesterday and I don't think the saleslady got it. I practically had to explain what soccer was to her. <sigh> It's still early....
I just got TiVo too and will be getting DirectKick for this season. I've been having trouble fitting in watching the 1 EPL, 1 MFL, and random CL game that comes across my cable every week this winter. I can't imagine what I'm going to do when MLS starts.
Re: Re: Direct Kick Deal. Believe me, I hate to read nothing but complaints on the board. Still will get the shootout, I mean Direct Kick. Yes, it is a deal and will have the 'ole Tivo workin' overtime. Counting down the days to April 3rd.......
For those of you on the fence, In-demand will have a free preview of this package on April 3. I already know I will be getting the package ($69 is STILL a great deal). Anyways, the schedule for April 3: San Jose at DC United (ABC) Metros at Columbus Chicago at Kansas City Colorado at Dallas New England at Los Angeles Only 25 days , 21 hours 5 minutes and 10 seconds until First Kick...
As I recall, the package announcement came out at least three weeks earlier this year than in previous years. Seems to me that, previously, we were always waiting for the announcement the week the season kicked off. So, in a sense, this is an achievement for MLS; DirecTV, DishNetwork, Comcast seem to have accepted MLS as being an every year kind of entity and, so, have all but standardized the package on all three systems. A pity that the CSRs can't all be brought up to speed so quickly. That said, I've never had any problems ordering the package on Dish. I'll give it a couple of weeks and then order.
