but not a surprise to Pep Lijnders: “He has this positioning in the box where he is often on the right spot in the right time. This intuition in the box, this pure instinct, that is something that is so difficult to coach. I still find it really difficult to coach that attribute."
3rd on our all time list for minutes per goal! 'Take a bow Edwards': Some Liverpool fans react to what Reds have tweeted today (tbrfootball.com)
He’s world class. Its unbelievable how good Liverpool is at recruiting players. I don't remember anyone being overly excited when we brought him in. For example, I think we would have been way more excited if we had signed Jadon Sancho for 90 million. Jota is is without a doubt the better player and he cost less than half the price. On one hand, Liverpool are brilliant at identifying players who about to explode. At the same time, Klopp and his coaching staff deserve credit for how much the player improves at Liverpool, and how they are put in the perfect situation to succeed. If Liverpool had signed Sancho, he would probably be lighting up the Premier League right now. If United had signed Jota, the world would have never got to see how brilliant he is. I have no doubt that we have done it again with Luiz Diaz. Chelsea and United can have the Sanchos and Werners. Liverpool will just continue to pick out the better player at half the price.
Werner would have been great here - as you noted about Sancho. Jota was always good - but one issue is that we bought him from Wolves - which to numerous pundits and the like - immediately devalue him.
Even at Wolves he was undervalued. If someone told you a big club was going to sign someone from Wolves, Jimenez, Traore, Neves, and Neto were all more hyped than Jota. Wolves fans didn’t even seem that bothered about losing him because he wasn’t even starting every game for them and they thought they got a good price. It’s amazing how good he has been at Liverpool.
Obviously, some, not all --obviously -- is supporting cast. A relatively high percentage of Jota's tallies have been hard work in front of the goal with rebounds. As an ice hockey fan, I very much appreciate that sort of skill. Football isn't quite so physical, but you have to get your nose in there. I don't know that Wolves had the key players to create the kinds of chances that Salah et co. do.

Diogo Jota has been rewarded for his progress at Liverpool with an improved new long-term contract, reports Ian Doyle. Jota has put pen to paper on a five-year deal having made an impressive impact following his arrival from Wolverhampton Wanderers in September 2020 for an initial £41million. Liverpool were keen to recognise the development of Jota, with the contract in keeping with the club's strategy of rewarding players on the basis of individual progress and their contribution to Jurgen Klopp's team.
"After such a good night at Anfield mine ended in the worst way ! In the last minute one of my dreams collapsed I will be one more supporting from the outside, club and country, and fighting to be back as soon as possible ." "You'll Never Walk Alone" -(Diogo Jota)
Sounds bad but we won't know for sure until the scan results are reviewed. But yup another chapter in our sad injury saga.
