By starting european football cups in the mid 50's Dinamo increased his international potential, and in 60's he achieved excellent results in Europe. First in 1961 semifinals of Cup of the cups, then two years later he played the finals of Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (today UEFA cup), and finally he won Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1967 by outperforming the great Leeds United.

Besides the international achievements succesfull 60's brought four winnings and two finals in Jugoslavian cup, but in the state cup Dinamo for five times lost in finals and won the second place. The reason for this certain failure was not only sports and psychological nature but also political strategies that came from Beograd.

Since declaring independance of Croatia in 1991 Dinamo grew up into a leading club in the state, the most succesfull in the former Jugoslavia and one of the most powerfull clubs in Southeastern Europe, at the level od Fenerbahce, Glatasaray, Besiktas and Olympiacos.

Only for two times in modern Croatia Dinamo ended the season lower than the thirs place, in 1992 and 2005, and in first eleven seasons he played ten times in the cups finals.

Under the name ''Croatia'' in the 90's Dinamo gained five championships and four cups, and he continued winning after the returning of the old name on february 14th 2000. The most deserving for the returnig of the name ''Dinamo'', besides the fans who scaned the name Dinamo at the stadium since 1993 till 2000, are todays executive vice president Zdravko Mamić, Zlatko Canjuga, Tomislav Židak – the journalist in Jutarnji list and Dinamo's long time chronicler and bussinessman Željko Šelendić.

The period between 1996 and 2000 was extremly successfull – Dinamo won five titles and three cups in a row, and the second gold erawas between 2006 and 2010 when Dinamo gained champions title five years in a row. With great games since the begining of this season (2010/11) Dinamo is looking forward to winning another champions title and croatian cup also.

In the First Croatian Football League Dinamo setted some records that will be hard to crash. In the last few years Dinamo is statisticaly the most succesfull team in the european football.

On the international field The blue team gained series of observed results, including winnings over Partizan and Grasshopper by 5:0 (both in 1997), over the Celtic by 3:0 (in 1998), Porto by 3:1 (in 1998), Ajax by 1:0 (in 1998) and 3:2 (in 2007) and equal with no goals with Manchester United. One of the biggest Dinamo's succesessis certanly winning the great Villarreal in Maksimir (in 2010)

Since the season 2005/06 Dinamo played 62 european games in UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europe League, and he achieved great results in european games. In same period Dinamo placed in group phase of UEFA Europa League for five times and is situated in 80 best UEFA Europa League clubs. Since his begining Dinamo met a lot of great europen clubs, and some of them are Werder Bremen, Ajax Amsterdam, Hamburger SV, Basel, Shakhtar Donetsk, Sparta Praha, Tottenham Hotspur, Spartak Moscow, Udinese Udine, Red Bull Salzburg, Anderlecht Bruxelles, Villarreal. The scent of european succes is easy to feel for a long time now, and it's matter of time when Dinamo will wellcome spring in Europe.

Dinamo is also the key of Croatian football representation succeses, which is by the FIFA data from February 2011 9th team of the world (over the 60% of the representative players are actual or former Dinamo players (Badelj, Vrsaljko, Modrić, Eduardo, Ćorluka, Vukojević, Kranjčar, Leko, Čale, Pokrivač, Mandžukić, Lovren, Drpić, Pranjić, Schieldenfeld).
