We are a society of instant gratification, enough with the games and show us the damn ball.

    Sincerly,

I guess I haven't sunk to the levels of cynicism that abound on these boards. But, i'm always interested in puzzles and games, so I'll play along. And it's MLS related--just that fact alone makes it better than the crossword in the funnies...

Dimples on a soccer ball are the biggest jerk-off in marketing history.

It might be a good ball, but it ain't because of the dimples.

I refer you to this link, where the idea was tested by a lab a while ago... the results are expected by anyone with even a basic sense of physics.

I run a soccer store and have personaly tested this ball myself, and intend to sell it to the local amature adult league for use as a game ball. It sounds and looks a bit gimicky, but it does fly well due the stabilizing effect that the dimpples have on its flight....... it's just like a big golf ball.

I'm not saying that this ball is superior to evry thing else, but I gotta say I liked it enough to use it myself.

But may I point out that any quality of flight or "stabilizing effects" you may have noticed have ZERO to do with the dimples. In fact the stitching lines are more likely to have an effect than the dimples as they are too shallow in respect to the surface area of the ball to have any effect.

Look you can banter all you want about the studies, but get the ball, or borrow it from someone who has it, and try it out.......... don't be a jackass and talk about how uselsess it is until you do.

I didn't say it swerved more or when a mile longer, I said it prformed very well for, enough for me to use it myself.

And before you go psih toshing my analysis, I'm 29, I've played collegiately and professionally, and it is my business to know this type of merchandise.

I would compare it to the Predator shoe when they came out, a great concept, (to some people anyway), but not one that will win a game for you all by itself. This ball is a step in an interesting direction, but if MLS thinks that they are getting a MAGIC ball, well then they are going to be a bit disappointed...... but it is a good ball

Kind sir, do not be so defensive. I did not question the quality of the ball, your assesment of its performance or the fact that it is even a good soccer ball.

I am only pointing out that the "dimples" have no effect and that they are only a marketing ploy.

I have kicked and played with the ball, and as far as I can tell it is a quality ball...but it aint the dimples that make it so...

and i agree: go you red devils.

Eurosport catalog has been peddling these since last summer. My wife bought me one of the dimpled Shudoh balls for my birthday last June. She bought me the "real" one, over $100, not the cheapo version (if there even is a "cheapo" version).

I find it easy to control when passing on the ground. Not as easy to pass through the air, when fully inflated it feels kind of hard. To further try out the ball, my friend Scott and I kicked long balls with backspin to each other, and didn't find the ball any easier to trap. Shooting it was a different story...easy to get good power and quickly get sharp spins on the ball.

Not a bad ball by any means, but of recent balls I still like the first official MLS ball (by Mitre) and most adidas balls better. I would, and have, only used the Shudoh as a warm weather game ball. In cold weather, heading that ****** could knock you out.

Any Quakes fans interested in trying it out, we usually have the ball with us at the tailgates...

    Where the heck is it?

I was under the impression the new match ball would be unveiled at the draft. What the hell is Puma's problem? (They have not yet completed a real jersey for the Fire; the ones they showed the other day were mock-ups.) Also, on Puma's site, there isn't a word about MLS or the Fire.

Was there an announcement prior to the draft that said the new ball and/or new ball design would be unveiled at the draft?

I was under the impression that fans would vote for the design they wanted on the MLSnet.com website before the new ball would be unveiled.

I was under the impression that it was, also. I can't say for sure why, but I swear I thought I saw something about this. I did see the voting thing, too. I wonder if the date got pushed back at some point so they added this voting thing?
