The tournament is underway in Martinique. Last night's scores: Martinique 5:1 Dominica French Guiana 1:0 Guadeloupe http://www.antilles-sport.com/news/default.asp (in French)
Looks like Martinique will qualify from the group already. French Guiana look good for second place now after their surprise win, but they had already posted a 2-1 success away to Suriname pre-tournament, so they were in good form. 2nd favourites Guadeloupe must now hope that results go their way in order to progress. The winner of this group gets a bye in the next round, while the runner-up faces Cuba. Today's games Martinique - French Guiana Dominica - Guadeloupe
I saw the French Guiana win as an upset, too, but I looked over the teams' head-to-head records, and over the years they're pretty close. The result wasn't a fluke, either: although Guadeloupe missed a penalty, the game was fairly even, at least according to that French-language site.
Saturday's results: Guadeloupe 7:0 Dominica Martinique 0:0 French Guiana http://www.antilles-sport.com/news/default.asp With one game to go, Martinique and French Guiana are tied with 4 points, and Guadeloupe has 3. French Guiana has an almost sure win against Dominica, so they should qualify; Martinique qualifies with a win or draw against Guadeloupe, but Guadeloupe qualifies with a win.
Last round results: French Guiana 4:0 Dominica Martinique 0:0 Guadeloupe A tremendous performance overall by French Guiana, the first time they've advanced in the Caribbean Cup since 1995. They top the group and get a bye in the next round, due to the withdrawals from group C. Martinique gets the second spot, but have to be disappointed with their showing, especially playing at home. Now they're stuck with Cuba in the next round.
about the next round for them, vs haiti and jamaica. i don't see them go any further though. the next round will get harder and harder.
I think Martinique got 2nd on purpose. Assuming they get by Cuba, they'll get the winner of St. Kitts and probably Haiti. French Guiana will probably be getting Jamaica. I'd take St. Kitts-Haiti over Reggae any day.
