http://www.metrofanatic.com/mf/story.jsp?ID=1824 What's up with Digi? Coming into last season I thought he would play on the left all year and be one of the better players. I was obvisouly very wrong. 21 year-old Pablo Brenes will replace him.

I thought so too...Digi didn't look like he was part of this team all year so far. I think they were just waiting to waive him.

Did we really give Digi a chance??? Seems like he was kind of pushed out and we never really saw what he could do. I hope he lands somewhere in the MLS soon. I thought he might be the only real "enforcer-type" player on our team so I guess that is gone as well.

he had all of last season where he came in with the reasonable expectation of being a modest contributor to our team, and to be the answer to our search for an adequate player on the left side of the field...however, he did absolutely nothing to impress, and played poorly more often than not...i'm not finding a problem with him being waived..

    Ohhh "DigisGirl" where are you?!??!!

Digi was the only player i can remember where his girlfriend would defend him on the boards.

Although DiGi didn't get chances this year, he got plenty of chances last year. The combination of the Leitch at left back experiment, Gaven locking up a starting role, and Regan apparently passing him in Bradley's estimation did him in. When Regan started that one game, and DiGi wasn't even hurt, you just knew that the end was near.

I think he is good enough for another team to give him a shot, or for a better A-League side that needs a left-sided player to look at him as a starter.

Guy played in 18 games last year and started 16. That's half a season. I don't know about "us" giving him enough of a chance, but Bob gave him half a season to impress and he didn't so he's gone. I will never forget the game where he ran over to clean somebody out and ended up knocking himself unconcious, but that doesn't make him Roberto Carlos, no matter what HotAssAlex says.

Shouldn't he have been cut in the offseason then? All that talk about Brenes not being able to feed his family due to being OOC after the transfer window. How does this solve that problem when DiGi is now OOC and unable to look for work outside of his country? Anyone notice how mlsnet buried this midway through the MET page only? The mention how Brenes had his contract run out during the window which earlier wasn't stated to be the case? No mention how FIFA/USSOCCER were asked for a "waiver". Seems like part of the ok (if given) was to not publlciize the exception to set a precedent.

Digi was kept on the roster as backup- in case we had a rash of injuries and needed him. Turns out, we didn't need him. That is the way professional teams are run, and every player knows that they are a commodity when the sign. Just as every team knows that they can sign a guy, have him play out that contract and leave on a Bosman, giving the club nothing in return. It's business.

Also, I don't honestly think Digi is going to find work out of the country, and most leagues are in break at the moment anyway, so other than cutting the guy there is little damage done to his prospects. As he made 35k or less a year, he could move to an A league team tomorrow and get paid as much, maybe more.

I feel "bad" for him that he lost his job, no one is rejoicing in that. But first, he is an american who has a better chance at a successful living than most. He can quit soccer tomorrow and find a career, as many other athletes have. Second, he can likely get another job as a player, and continue to play as long as his health and talents allow.

I don't doubt that Brenes being OOC and having a starving family might be more thank a bit of hyperbole, but who knows. I don't think that's really the issue.

was just pointing out the silliness and hypocrisy of the "official comments" that I think might have made it into the new york times.
