Yes, again. It is rumored that we're still working the deal, and that Diego is now saying complementary things about Spurs. So, maybe it's working!

I love this picture, with the blue ribbon holding the medal. It looks almost as if he's already wearing a Spurs shirt!

He's a playmaker, attacking midfielder. His nickname is Zidane jr. (apparently).

This news has been kicking around for a couple of days, originates from quotes which the BBC put up, although there has been some dispute about whether this is new stuff or mostly recycled from the summer. I suppose we'll have to wait and see, would be suprised if anything happens before the summer considering how little time there is before the deadline.

    good signing

    Again??

What a signing he would be though..hes quick and very strong and in my opinion would do well in the premiership. His dad did say though that he would never move over to white hart lane.

Would love to see it, but when do I get to hear some juicy rumors involving defenseman? Yeah Tottenham are Shiat at midfield but I'd love to see a decent Defenseman as well. Maybe a CDM?

Wow, that's encouraging send, thanks! Just imagine how much better we would have done this season with Van Bommel. With MVB our porous defense would have been half-decent, and we would have had no problems starting the attack from the back, not to mention that he's a tremendous one-touch passer and possession midfielder. I think he would have been worth 9 points, possibly more. That would have put us in the thick of the race for the final Champions League spot, even with Pleat running the show.

Van Bommel becomes even more tatalizing as I remember that Arse have been chasing him for some time with no hope.

    It's not looking good!

I'm in two minds about this. on the plus side he's a high profile prospect and would be exciting to watch. The club doesn't have an attacking midfield playmaker in the squad, let alone one who is a prospective world class star.

But on the other hand it's a lot of money for someone who is not proven at the highest level and has gone backwards recently. I'm also not convinced how he would fit into the Premiership, which remains a fast and physical league particularly in central midfield. He's small and not the quickest, likes to do things at his own pace. He won't get the time and space in the centre to work his magic, not with people like Robbie Savage swarming all over him and hacking him. Wingers have more space to be creative these days, but he won't fit in out wide.

I will wait and see what happens, but I won't lose any sleep either way.

    i agree with send.
also tribalfootball is reporting not only are they going after diego, but also mark van bommel. a player like van bommel would really really help out a player liek diego so they could push up and not worry about tracking back and all that good stuff.
where is tottenham getting this money from tho?

Tottenham has always been wealthy, but for this summer a share issue has gone through which means they have even more money to spend. It's certainly not Chelski levels, but it's enough to splash out on a few very good players. Getting both Diego and Van Bommel would leave things a bit tight, but the club should be able to get both of them and maybe pick up one or two bargain players.

I think for Diego the club may actually be willing to go over the transfer budget, that seemed to be the case last summer when they first moved for him. I suppose the thinking being that if you get the chance to sign a potential superstar, it's worth a gamble.

The signs are that Diego will likely end up at Milan. His Dad is making noises to that effect. Also Anderton and Poyet are almost certainly leaving at the end of the season. Hip hip..........

Van Bommel would be a fine addition. What we need is a water carrier to go with a good attacking midfielder. So Van Bommel behind Diego or Dalmat in the centre. That'd be interesting.

Don't see why Milan 'need' Diego, they have Kaka. But perhaps the "Inter, Juventus, Roma, Milan..." comment is a bit worrying.

Who knows, it'd be nice but would he fit into English football?

The London Evening Standard reports that Tottenham are at an advanced stage in securing the services of Diego and Mark van Bommel. The Brazilian teenager who plays for Santos has been linked with Spurs for a year now and appears to be sorting out his Italian passport as the final hitch in coming to Europe. At 18, he has earned rave reviews and has played for the national side, with Tottenham maintaining contact despite their inability to bring him to London last summer or in the January transfer window. Midfielder Mark van Bommel is seemingly set to leave PSV Eindhoven in the summer and Spurs have moved to make sure he comes to N17 with the club he said he was keen to join.

The Standard said in the piece that the new manager has OK'd these signings and that the new manager is Giovanni Trapattoni.

The Daily Mirror claims that Tottenham have agreed a £2.5 million fee to bring goalkeeper Paul Robinson to White Hart Lane.

I've got a third hand article, a person posted it on Glory Glory net, it's from a Santos supporters site:

    Slightly crap translation:

The sensation brazilian Diego is expecting he can show outside of his talents in England. The 19-year-old went connected strongly with a movement to Tottenham since the last they see, but transference collapsed because did not have a passport European. However, with the paperwork finishes now the sock reentered negotiations with the club north of London. Its from the Wedge of Djair of the father and of the agent commented: "Diego indicated that favors play in England, better that in Italy. It saw that Tottenham is an excellent club with a good structure and estêve struck by the professionalism of the peoples that they work there." Recently renting an apartment nearby Milan, Diego spreaded itself rumors extensively to to be adjusted to join C. A. Milan this they see, Diego explained: "learn how the football new and a new language can be an extra problem, prefers play me in London with a manager portuguese after the summer". It understands themselves that the English club agreed a rate with the club Saints of the player, thought to be in the region of 20M USD, although the fish possess at present only 50% of the player.

Most interesting bit here is that he prefers to play in London with a Portugese manager??

WARNING FC Porto RESULT REVEALED [R]

Well that would support the Mourinho theory, and he did pick up another big win today. I don't know though, I think that whomever is the "done and dusted" manager might be best served keeping his mough shut over all of this. I think people might be surprised and that it could end up being Martin O'Neill after all. It almost sounds as though the others (Trap, Mancini, Capello, Mourinho, Antic, etc.) are stumping for the job or using this as an opportunity to force better terms out of other clubs. If I were the "done and dusted" manager, I definitely would keep my mouth shut until time to move. Mourinho has made it clear that coaching in England is his preference, and that he's available. That doesn't sound like someone who already has a job. It sounds like someone who is looking for a job.

    Very interesting though, thanks send!

The really good news is that apparently the reason Diego and his father got the house in Italy is because of the passport, it's an Italian grandparent link that Diego is using to get his Italian citizenship. So it wasn't rented as a staging point for negotiations, just as an address in Italy to stay over for the last citizenship requirements.

I've been undercover in an arabian harem, tracking down Osama. I've found him, and he does not taste good.

But really, my computers has been broken. I've nearly died not being on Bigsoccer.

I think it's Mourinho, he admitted talking to Spurs in January, but wouldn't leave because of the CL.

Things are looking interesting for Spurs at the mo. Although the current season is rubbish, again.
