The MetroStars had an opportunity to quickly tie the game in the 19th minute after defender Daniel Torres brought down striker Tommy Mooney in the box. The penalty kick attempt by Jaime Moreno went wide right.
while we're on the subject i see you conveniently forgot to mention these little tidbits. "But the team finally got on the board ten minutes into the second half when substitute Ali Curtis was brought down in the box by Crew defender Brian Dunseth. Captain Marco Etcheverry slotted home the penalty kick attempt to reduce the deficit to 4-1." "After Petrov missed a sitter in the 58th minute, Etcheverry netted another PK attempt, powering home a spot kick after Ian Joy brought down Eliseo Quintanilla in the 74th minute." lets hope this isn't a trend. http://www.mlsnet.com/games/03/tracker.php?gamename=03082003_CLBDC&version=recap
2 pk's against this metros...and weren't there 2 pk's against the dc scum? what the hell is going on in the back?
Just one PK and they didn't convert. Edson Buddle was brought down in the box as well, but Martino missed the PK. The good news is both Crew goals were from long distance. One 20 yards by Matteo and another 18 yards by Garcia. Didn't see too many long shots last year, maybe that turns around. That will only make our strikers more dangerous because defenders can't as easily crowed the box if the Crew are smacking them from long range. As far as the PKs recently. I would have to say Dunseth just made a bad judgement and it cost him. But the other two I'm not too surprised by. On the second one, Joy probably got beat and felt he had to do something amazing in order to repent in the eyes of Andrulis. That kind of stuff happens when your new and trying to displace someone on the roster and your 21 years old to boot. Not too surprised by Torres' miscue as well. We've all seen it many times. He gets beat and then grabs a jersey. Really someone should strap his arms to the side of his body. Hopefully, Greg sends him packing because it's getting tiring to watch.
I love how we're all so informed that we are able to discuss player performances based on text match reports. Hell, I might just save myself the trouble of going to CCS this season and just read match reports...they always tell the whole story.
LUD's diary of the game mentions a terrible clear that wound up dead in the middle of the box and a subseqent PK. If Torres isn't any better than this he neeeds to go home and practice in the Rica. He appears to have good speed, but not enough quicks to cover the quick forwards. Nelson needs some work according to the match review. Adios Daniel, buena suerte Y muchas gracias. http://www.matchnight.com/mn-matchreport.cfm?MID=10
I think it's really Omar Belbey, at least according to the latest match report. Apparently Belbey is an Algerian midfielder, born in 1973, who has played for Montpellier in France.
It doesn't really relate to the metros game, but after reading LUD's account of the action down there I still am stunned that McCarty has been getting minutes at dmid. I mean I am one of his staunchest defenders, I like the guy alot I think learning under Clark will give him some great help (like how to frustrate the hell outta a player like Diallo or Ruiz and NOT get thrown outta the game at the same time). Yet with all the things I think Mccarty brings, distrobution skills are not at the top of the list, and well wouldn't it be bennificial to have that at dmid?
