This article reports that the 'Spurs are having serious financial problems. Bobby's not going there could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for him. http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,1563,1069950,00.html
No but he did leap an ant hill in a single bound... Moving to Sp*rs probably would not have been a great move for Bobby considering their current financial trouble and the loss of the manager that wanted him. The Toons on the otherhand would probably be a good move. Better manager, better club, better players...
And if rumors are correct, some of those players may be gone, thereby increasing his chances of making the team.
Bobby's play has been so poor of late, I'm not sure he deserves to be on our team. Especially if Etch is out, this game is Bobby's chance to shine in a big game. We need him to step it up. Then we can talk about Engerland in the off season....
Not if we're talking about Bobby. He can't reapply for a work permit for 1 year after his denial. So a move to England for him would have to wait until next summer. If he wants to go somewhere else in Europe, he can do that. Now if we want to talk about England and Bocanegra, we could have a conversation.
He played well against Columbus, plus wasn't it said earlier he'd been battling bronchitis since his return from London?
The rumor is that 7 or so Toon players were part of that gang-rape of a 17 year old that occured a few weeks ago.
Starting in midfield for YOUR NEWCASTLE UNITED!: Chino Alegria Mark Lisi Kyle Beckerman Jordan Stone striking fear into the heart of all Premiership defenses!
no not really. bobby robson (newcastle united's manager) is a big fan of convey and even wrote a letter on behalf of spurs to the english fa supporting bobby's proposed move to london this year. he saw bobby in a friendly a couple of years back when newcastle played against dc united and was very impressed by him then, and his subsequent showings for the usmnt. he has been quoted several times in the media singling out convey for praise. robson has also been widely rumored to be scouting him. so there is some truth in this speculation.
Convey has also trained with Newcastle for either a couple of weeks or a month in the off-season as well. They (NU) know him well.
that's wonderful news...in 12 month's time...till then Bobby's ineligible to apply for another work permit in the UK....though with Barca's problems in attack and Hristo's connections, a move to Cataluna isn't out of the question if his form is on track.
Did Bobby dodge a bullet Hi, I'm a Spurs fan from London and have been following DC United since you beat us over here in London and our connections with your very own Mr Convey. I have to disagree with you about Spurs being in Financial trouble. As with the British media this has been over exagerated and wait till you see the Leeds financial results tomorrow. As for Bobby going to Spurs or Newcastle then both clubs are excellent and I'm sure he would do really well for both of them if he leaves. Anyway, best of luck to you guys and hope to see your boys back in London one day. We might just give you abetter game than last time. Cheers
Re: Did Bobby dodge a bullet We seem to do better aganst international opponents anyway....as for the Spurs news Stateside...here in the US we're lead to believe that it was Hoddle that was virtually the lone cheerleader for Bobby's move to London and that the front office wasn't as keen about it as Glenn was. What do you see on your end in regards to the organization as a whole wanting Bobby over there as much as Hoddle wanted him?
Bobby Well our chairman expressed disappointment again today in his financial statement about the deal falling through for Bobby so you never know we still might be as keen as.... How good is he anyway? Is he top kwality and would he take the English league by storm? If so I'll see if I can get the deal up and running again.
Re: Bobby If you've got that kinda clout then I've got some IRS stuff I need taken care of As for Bobby, don't know if you've seen him but yeah, he's good. He's fast and direct so he fits in with the style of play in the EPL. He's out of form at the moment due to illness and lack of playingtime through the appeal process but he'll come back around in the postseason and should end well. If you guys get our broadcasts try catching some of the playoffs.
Bobby No problem, I'll have a word with the IRS for you, one thing do you want me to clear the tax completely or are you after a rebate? I don't think we get the MLS live over here in little ole england but I'll check as I would like to see a few games. Players from the US are doing the business here over the last few years. We have Kasey Keller of course who is quality. Who is the main man at DC United then?
Re: Bobby i believe that you guys get a game a week on channel 5, but its at 4 or 5 a.m. our most consistent player is probably new zealand captain ryan nelson. i would not be surprised to see him in the premiership next season, however. convey is probably our most talented american player (although out of form right now), but we also have ernie stewart (90+ caps), ben olsen (ex-nottingham, 20+ caps), and a horde of very young and talented players that will probably feature in the national team or mls at some point in the future.
