I was watching the game on TV and late in the game I noticed that security was present in the sections next the the Screaming Eagles...was there a bunch of fights in the stands (like that would shock me that Sallies get into a fight at a game in DC..less class than Dominicans)
I didn't see or hear about any fights in our sections yesterday. There were some problems in our area at the recent DC United/CD Aguila match (mostly with Salvadoran folks throwing stuff, but there were other issues as well), so they may have increased the security presence since both the US & Salvadoran crowds were expected to be larger for this one. As it turned out, with the constant rain and colder temp yesterday, the United/Aguila game ended up having the larger crowd (17,453 vs. 13,590).
The crowd around my section (334) was well behaved. I think the cold rain made most fans focus more on staying as warm and dry as possilbe rather than jumping up and down making lots of noise. It also cut down on beer consumpiton which may also have had an effect. The only thing noteworthy I can remember is one persistent loudmouth making allegations about Peter Prendergast's sexual preferences. Truly shocking
There was security surrounding La Norte too. As far as I can tell, all they did was watch for people lobbing things at us, which only happend once. They didn't come into the section, even when we set off the smoke bombs. Sachin
uh, that would be me (although i was in 135 but moved around to get better angles to yell at him) cursing pendergrast and waiting outside the tunnel afterwards to continue my opinion on his job in the CR qualifier.
