Just wondering since the movie got so many mixed reviews. I loved the editing, scenery and the overall dark/gray tones of the film, but agree that the plot was a bit weak and disjointed.

I've also read that the Japanese version (Ringu) was better.

    Anyone?

I enjoyed the ring. The only part that creeped me out was the closet shot, if you know which one I'm referring to. I wouldn't say it will go down as a classic though. Just fun.

Ringu does a better job with the story and ties up all the loose ends better, but isn't quite as scary, imho.

That about covers it. For all its flaws and occasional lulls, it's good entertainment.

the ring and ringu are nearly identical...people seem to prefer the one they saw first (because its always scarier the first time)

Agreed, I saw Ringu first, actually saw the part I, II, and the prequel in one nite...and thought the ring did a nice job of combining parts I and II, wondering what the sequel will look like...and be on the look out the grudge, out soon, supposed to be scary the ringu...

I started a thread a while back about this movie. I thought it was a great horror movie. Scared the crap out of me. The plot was a little thin in spots, but overall, I give it a

-- edit -- so, what's the code to embed a thumbs up in a post?

The movie wasn't well-written and the plot was eye-rolling at times.

That said, it's the first movie in about 20 years to scare the crap out of me, even after it was over. Something about the images in the movie. They really grabbed me.

I slept with the lights on the night I saw it.
