The local latin radio station reports that Raul Diaz Arce has left his A-league team and re-signed with CD Aguila. We'll see him here later this month.
This sounds like an artificial way to boost attendance at this match. If RDA can't got off the pine for an A-League team, why would he be a good signing for a 1st Division team? I won't be shocked to read that "it didn't work out" shortly after the match is played.
A. This is the Salvadoran first division. This is a league that Quintanilla apparently tore up, yet he only scored two MLS goals. I bet Charleston could hold their own in that league. B. He may be living off his past reputation. I wonder how much a crowd boost this will really be. Surely the Salvadorans have to realize by now just how bad he is. I can't believe that there are that many people out there who originally weren't planning to go see a Salvadoran team play but now will simply because RDA will be there. But what do I know, maybe he is still considered a demi-god in the Salvadoran community.
That's one more reason why not to attend the game. Is there a reason the DC area is trying so hard to appeal to the Salvadorian population? A friendly with the national team and a friendly with Aguila within a couple of weeks? Its a little much don't you think?
Having spoken with some Salvadoran friends, Diaz Arce is still a legend in the ES community. He was one of the all time great in their league before he came here. And he was also a great player here which helps explain a little of the bitterness they feel towards DCU. I don't think anyone questions his decline, but his supporters will still come out to see him. ps....Marco can still pack a stadium back home.
If this is well-marketed and it's a nice evening (i.e., not too cold), we're gonna be about as outnumbered as Custer. It'll be fun.
I'm sure both friendlies will go a long way toward balancing the books at both United and the USSF respectively. Sachin
Preach it, brother. Our offseason is WAY too long. Count me in favor of frequent friendlies during the offseason!
Let's not forget the urine shower. DC UNIted's #1 goal is to market the Salvadorean community because they are the largest hispanic community in the metro politan area. United and USSF can care less if we get pissed on, have our asses pinched, harrassed and ect. As Sanchin said, they need to balance out the books.
Yet another opportunity for the chant: Hey, hey, RDA! How many teams Traded you today? Maybe he will take this opportunity (perhaps his last) to defuse some of the punks among his countrymen. Don't hold your breath. GM
watching RDA flop around and his lack of speed (he looks like he is running on the bottom of the ocean these days) will be of great delight to me. much like when the fatman put cien in at RFK this year and he sucked ass. i can't wait to see both the club and the ESNT get smacked the f¤ck up in such short order. i guess i'll go have dinner at Haydees to celebrate the victory!
I think you're right, but I was surprised to see that he had his own personal cheering section, though small, at the Kickers' home game v. Charleston.
And what's wrong with that? As someone who is old enough to remember the demise of the NASL and when the US national team played at high schools, I'm in favor of playing a couple of meaningless games that put money into the accounts of both the league and the fed. If the Salvadoran population wants to boo United and the national team, fine. As long as they all pay to do so, I have no problem with that. And rather than being upset about it, I'll ponder the irony of all that all these guys who are booing my teams are actually helping them out.
Nothing wrong with that from here. Want to shut the Salvadorans up? Then buy all the tickets so they can't get in. It worked in Columbus against Mexico. Sachin
