breaking news... short before the deadline to submit the players list for CL,Juventus sign striker Di Vaio from Parma, for reported € 25 millions

another striker was needed with the questions surrounding Trezeguet's knee; Di Vaio is similar to the frenchman in that both are pure finishers who don't help building up the offense or assisting, and depend mostly on their teammates on scoring chances

but they have a completely different style,Di Vaio is a fast break beast who is mostly effective on the run and cutting inside finishing with powerful shots,Trezeguet is a poacher and a specialist of the header

Salas however is versatile enough to partially replace the aerial threat and presence in the box Trez provided

    important update

Datasport.it is reporting Matteo Brighi will go the other way,not clear whether on loan or joint ownership; the reported fee would be € 27,5 millions

^ btw, this might suggest Davids is staying at Juve, instead

alright, this is official and quite different from the press has been telling initially:

Matteo Brighi is 100% a Parma player, while Di Vaio comes on loan with an option to buy him for Juventus at the end of the season (and it's obvious the club has all the intentions to sign the player)

Juventus is paying € 7 millions immediately and if it exercises the right to buy out the striker there will be three more installments during the 2003-04 season.
the total is € 21 millions + Brighi; Di Vaio doesn't come cheap...

Juventus looks more and more like the perfect example of what's wrong about calcio (financial issues aside):
a squad of aggressive and physically imposing ballwinners who don't have a clue when it comes at building the offense, keeping possession of the ball, controlling the pace and who are supposed to deliver the ball as quickly as possible - precision is irrelevant - to the forwards who have to make something out of their individual skills

and the players are aiming at the CL as the prime target of the season...

    AH-AH! :(

p.s.: and Lippi is expected to become the next national team coach in less than one year... here comes the Dark Age

the mistery about this market operation of Juve continues...
on an interview conceded to La Stampa Moggi says Brighi goes to Parma on a loan for two years, not on joint ownership:

    http://www.lastampa.it/sport/default_quijuve.asp

the official statement on Juventus website was apparently claiming the contrary

Anyone think that the addition of Di Vaio is an indication that Juve doesn't think Trezeguet will be returning after this season? Di Vaio is a quality player and I don't think he will be satisfied being a back-up in the long run. Opinions?

that's what many are suggesting, but Juve's management is denying Trez's problem is so serious

Well, I wasn't thinking so much in terms of Trez's injury, but the possibility that he won't come back because of contract issues. Hasn't his agent said he won't be coming back because Juve won't improve his contract?

they will play with 3 forwards like today...

del piero, salas and di vaio were all out there, when treza comes back, him and di vaio will be ahead and del piero behind them
