So VfB was in Babelsberg-Potsdam, just SW of Berlin today to take on 6th-level side Falkensee-Finkenkrug in their opener in the DFB-Pokal. Probably a big treat for the fans there, although their side were huge underdogs. I expected VfB to win by at least 4 goals -- they did not disappoint.

Managed to catch some of the first half (including Ibisevic's goal at about min.29) and then all of the 2nd half. Bruno had them in a 4-5-1, like most of last season. Ibisevic started up front, then the AMs left to right where Traore - Hajnal - Harnik. Gentner & Kvist in DM. Backline of Boka - Niedermeier - Tasci - Hoogland. Ulriech in goal. I was looking forward to seeing Hoogland for the first time, and thought he generally played well. Harnik added a goal just before halftime.

Cacau replaced Kvist for the 2nd half. VfB seemed to dominate possession throughout, as you might expect, although the final stats showed them as strangely even (I thought). VfB went up 3-0 about min.54 on a pretty cross by Hoogland from the right into the box. Headed home by Harnik. At about min. 61, Torun came in for (I think) Harnik...Okazaki came in for Ibisevic.

Within about 10 minutes or so of coming on, Torun had a 1-on-1 with the F-F GK on a fast break, but pulled up at the last second, a defender caught up with him, he moved right to take the shot and pulled it to the left of goal. Should have scored!

Big thrill for the F-F GK when he saved a Cacau shot at about min.76. Torun did score at about min.78 following a quick counter that saw Cacau set him up with a nice pass from the left into the box. VfB up 4-0. At min.83 Cacau was clearly tackled in the box, but there was no call and the ref waved play on.

The final goal for Die Roten happened with about 3 minute to play. Torun tore down the left flank, cut in a little, pulled the GK out of position and passed to the right where Okazaki coolly finished with a low shot into the far left corner.

All-in-all a good day, going pretty much as expected for the Bundesliga boys. Final stats had us outshooting F-F 41-2. We also had 22 corners. Nice sportsmanship as there were a lot of jerseys exchanged afterwards. Like I said, the new guys looked good. Hoogland can do a nice cross. Torun showed good pace and movement (although he should have scored at his first chance).

Big shock for Hoffenheim getting knocked out 4-0 by 4th-level side Berliner AK 07!
    Wow.

If it wasn't for the keeper, it could have been 10-0.
