I think Sebastian is going to have some words at the half. We let them up off the canvas that half. That selfish shot into traffic by Demirovic toward the end of added time with Rieder wide-open just to his right wasn't a great look. I'd like to see more from him. [Edit: Might have been Woldemade on the wing. I'm in the middle of my pills and dinner routine.]
He was jumping up and down, waving his arms, absolutely wide open and looking for the ball. That was actually pretty funny. I'm glad he got his tally, though. Führich is one of my favorites. Kaiserslautern is on fumes now. They've been giving us a lot of green to work with, but now they've really cracked. We should definitely notch at least one more.
Decent enough side, and they gave no shortage of effort. Full credit to them. But once Undav and Stiller came on, they were in big trouble. Come to think of it, they were in big trouble all along. They just refused to believe it. So, yeah. Full credit to 'em.
Second round Cup action today at 18:00 in Germany (11:00 here in Central Standard Time). Jahn Regensburg - VfB Stuttgart
Jahn Regensburg are bottom of the 2.B table; thus, this will be a good training match for the second squad players who usually get little 1.B action.
IIRC, they were just promoted up from the 3.B this year. Looks like they might be headed back down after this season, if they don't turn it around.
One of the fan accounts on Instagram (MeinVfB, maybe?) had the XI down pat. Great opportunity to get some guys full run. Sebastian was right on it.
Nice, comfortable half. We need this. We're still in the thick of things, so the more we can strengthen the squad from top to bottom before Deniz and El Bilal Touré get back, the better. Regensburg isn't exactly the most formidable opponent, but whatever. Run is run.
That was a nice goal by Nick Woltemade in the 61st minute. Great ball control to finish, with an assist by Justin Diehl.
We definitely saw some very good things today, and that was one of them. The result was never in doubt, of course, but still, it was a very positive day for us. Some players who needed action got lightly blooded and worked up a good sweat. For that alone, it was worth the trip to Regensburg. That rip from Jarzinho Malanga just before time nearly killed that guy. Oof.
