I think he should. He would benefit from the training sessions and being a reserve during WCQ’s can be a good learning experience for a GK.
Only thing would be if Lorenzo values Montero being a part of the process as more valuable than trying to include someone (relatively) new. But we shall see,
GIven that Vasquez is 6'5 and Vargas is 6'2, I would like for us to take advantage of a goalkeeper that has the height advantage. Considering that Ospina was only 6'0, we don't normally have tall/large goalkeepers on the national side.
Height isn’t everything. From what I’ve seen Vasquez is very similar to Montero and really doesn’t face that many shots. He’s solid not spectacular, but a good prospect to keep an eye on. I’d rather have Montero and Mier as backups but maybe give him a chance for a friendly?
for a GK it kind of is. Have their been exceptions, of course,. Same like IRC back in the day was a tiny CB but he compensated with his speed, IQ and leaping ability. But for the 'modern game' a couple inches matter in GK. And if you can find a big GK that can handle the ball even better.
No it isn’t. There’s like a minimum size, probably 6 feet, and I’d say that ideally you want a keeper that is 6’3 or 6’4, but not every keeper that is 6’6 is a good keeper. Not many tall goalies are good with their feet.
