http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/other_mlb/view.bg?articleid=1043661 I'm sure this will go down as the move which turns this franchise around.
I think they should claim that its in tribute to Ray Chapman; and they could go out of their way to sign Ray King and Ray Durham and...
...hire Ray Knight as manager; get caught using illegal suplements, incurring a Ray ban; take good care of the field, so that everyone will love the Ray mound; fight the Evil Empire just like Ronald Reagan.
Trying to reinvent itself, the perennial last-place team officially shortened its nickname to simply "Rays" during a celebration that brought a crowd of about 7,000 to a downtown park Thursday night. For those guys, that would be a decent crowd for a Thursday night game. Carl Crawford, Scott Kazmir, Rocco Baldelli, B.J. Upton, Delmon Young, Edwin Jackson and Al Reyes were among the players modeling the uniforms. The evening was capped by a concert featuring actor Kevin Costner and his band, Modern West. To think that Kevin Costners band draws about as well as the Devil R... ooops, the "Rays." If that's not a sign that a team should be moved or contracted, I don't know what is.
I was wondering if the Ray owners know if they wanted to be real entrepreneurs they could acquire a USL/MLS franchise for the current Tropicana site which is going to be redeveloped
They're getting a new stadium? Actually, if they can keep Kazmir around or spin him off for some more young pitching talent, they could actually be pretty damn good in a year or two. The talent is there in the every day lineup and rotation, it's just a matter of will it all jell before they practically sell players off.
The absurdity of that just boggles my mind. If everyone just keeps referring to them as the "Devil Rays", that's what they'll be. Like "Bronx Bombers". Who cares if it isnt "official"?
