Looks like he's on the dropdown list, now. Nick Name: Deuce Somebody needs to inform Fulham's web guys that McBride's nick name is McHead. Currently he doesn't have one listed.
Wow, that's two people in two days on here who think we should email Fulham to call him that. Unfortunately, among his US teammates his nickname is "Bake", after the old baseball player Bake McBride. I think McHead is more of a BigSoccer thing.
Lets not get intot the McBride nickname thing again - look at the West Ham v. Fulham thread on Yanks Abroad for that. Its been going on for days now. As for Clint's first appearance. Depends. If Fulham is down at 65 mins, he comes in then. May look a bit shaky on the ball - but seems to adjust himself as the game goes along and gets into the rhythm. Will either have a nice through ball or a shot just off goal. Nothing spectacular - just a solid start. If Fulham are tied, i think we'll see him around the 75th. His main job - draw a foul within 40 yards of goal. He'll do a good job being given a specific job to do and not be asked to create in his debut. Draws the foul, and is involved in the box when the free kick is swung in. If Fulham are up, he'll make an appearance aroudn the 87th minute - token first appearance til he gets his legs under him fully. He'll be welcomed by those in attendance at the Cottage and will have a couple of touches to kinda get his feet wet in the EPL.
Last I read, Dempsey was in the US signing papers. Is he back in London? Anyone know if he's started training with Fulham yet?
I read somewhere that he would be back "late this week." I don't expect to see him play this weekend, except maybe for a token minute or two in stoppage time.
Yeah, I'm sure he's fit but I doubt he's match fit. He may possibly get some garbage time minutes, but should gradually work his way onto the pitch while busting his butt in training. Hope I'm wrong, though, and he goes 90 on Saturday!
For some work visas you have to return to the country of origin in person. I had to fly from Geneva to Chicago when my work visa came through, to go to the Swiss embassy there, then turn around and fly back, all in about 24 hours. I drove out to the USA v Iran match in Lyon as soon as I got back. Very exhausting, but worth the experience, even if the match sucked.
The game is on Setanta this weekend. http://na.setanta.com/portal/systemcontent/tvschedule?open&channel=setantasportsna&dateadjust=3& 9:55 - kickoff at 10. Also, I doubt Duece will see the field now. I think he still has yet to begin training with the Whites.
If he hasn't started training yet, it might be awhile, I'd think. He hasn't been, officially, in training since november, then, has he? He'll probably need at least three or four weeks to get up to speed (they're in mid-season form/fitness,he's in pre0-season). I'd think three or four erserve games would make sense first. Mid Feb, then. Who's up then?
Article on how Dempsey differs from McBride and Bocanegra: http://www.squarefootball.net/article/article.asp?aid=4082
From TFI: "Dempsey can play saturday but Keano is not happy with his fitness level." That actually suprises me a bit because Dempsey is a hard worker and very driven...I would have thought he'd keep his fitness level fairly high. Maybe "not happy" just means he isn't ready to go 90, which wouldn't surprise me.
Good article. Very spot on about his play and the differences he displays from Boca and BMB. For excitment purposes, I hope Coleman skips the permit phase and gives him a license to rip and run, asap! He's going to fun to watch and Ijust hope he keeps his tenper in check the first time he gets whacked acorss the shins! We don'r need a repeat of Boca's first week, play one game and get the next 4 off
I just think there's a difference between keeping yourself in pretty good condition and being ready to play professionally _ and at a pace and level higher than what he's used to. At Reading, he'd never get into the team without a series of reserve matches to raise his fittness to game ready. This is not a slam on him, btw. He hasn't played for months. On the upside, once he's fit, he'll be fresh.
There's a thread on the Fulham messageboard about the article. It's a disappointing thread but I do like this quote: http://www.fulhamfc.com/Club/Messageboard.aspx?mode=thread&TopicID=6938 P.S. Keano is Steve Kean, Chris Coleman's assistant. ( http://www.fulhamfc.com/MatchAndTeam/SquadManagement/SteveKean.aspx ) The link to TFI is http://www.voy.com/13865/ .
