Despite the rain, 22,274 fans showed up at Giant Stadium. This is a great news. Carlos Ruiz did not play. Add another 3,000 if el pescadito would have played today. Congratulation Metro fans for your great support.

i thought giants stadium had a capacity around 22k for soccer, so would they open up more of the stadium or turn people away(if more had come)?

p.s. listen to FSW to see if they read my question. Matt from lima, Ohio

I'll say. If there were 13,000, my ass is a banjo.

But you ever notice that you can never play a depressing tune on a banjo? ;)

Sceptical enough not to believe the 22K figure, having seen the game here. But 13K would be too low, also.

Likely somewhere in between, like around 15K.

I just instant message my friend in New York who was at the game and I asked him the same question. He said that the rain was so hard that most people seated by the roof, which is huge. They moved back instead of up front. Also, remember that if I buy a ticket and they I decide not to show, I will still count as a present fan.

Generally, the front office cares more about the number of fans that pay you money to buy a ticket that earns one the right to sit in a seat at a game than the number of fans who are actually in those seats. As such, the former number is the one that counts for attendance. 22K sounds about right for MET/LA. Certainly didn't seem that many were actually in attendance today.

There was NOT 22K there. You can argue that maybe those were tickets sold, which is fine. But if you wanna estimate how many people actually showed up it was more like 12-15K. Which is still pretty good considering how bad the weather was. If it was 22K then you wouldnt have seen that many seats empty. When the lower bowl and middle mezz are sold out its about 35-40K and considering that only abour 30% of that was actually filled....

Everyone did go under the Mezzanine so thats why you didnt see anyone on TV except for the few brave souls who decided to sit in the rain instead of 20 rows back.

The ESC was about 75 people with only about half of them sitting up front and the rest under the roof.

I dont blame anyone for not sitting in the rain for this one as it was as cold as winter, but it rained like in the middle of monsoon season.

So the Bo fans decided not to show up because their guy wasn't playing? Great, another fickle ethnic group.

Yeah, before you post, read careful what people like me the started of this thread said. I said

"I just instant message my friend in New York who was at the game and I asked him the same question. He said that the rain was so hard that most people seated by the roof, which is huge. They moved back instead of up front. Also, remember that if I buy a ticket and they I decide not to show, I will still count as a present fan".

i KNOW VERY WELL THAT IF YOU BUY A TICKET AND THEY YOU DECIDE NOT TO GO, YOUR TICKET STILL COUNT FOR THE GENERAL ATTENDANCE. IN FACT. NO ONE SHOULD SEAT ON YOUR SEAT EVEN IF YOUR ARE NOT THERE IDIOT. DONT CALL ME IDIOT, MAYBE YOUR ARE. I DESERVE SOME APOLOGY.

    Here is some fuzzy math:
Let's say the last 8 rows of every lower section at GS were filled. Multiply those eight rows by 25 seats and then multiply that figure by 36, which represents the number of sections in the lower tier keeping in mind there are no sections that end in 6. That would give you a figure of around 7200 people. Not all of the covered seats we occupied by any stretch of the imagination so saying there was more than even 10k both wet and dry in the stadium is exagerated.

I can easily believe that 22,274 people bought tickets. It's just that the thread (no offense JLG) title would make martyrs of Metro fans when they don't really deserve it. Well the ones who showed up do, I know I wouldn't have gone. Cheers to those very dedicated fans.

Absolutely. Give them 2.5 more years, then move them to Harrison. Maybe it will even have stopped raining by then.

I still saw a great number of Bo fans. But I bet they were unaware of whether he was playing or not.

The capacity is 25,000. But they don't turn away the fans. For our home opener in 2000, we got 27,000. 2001 got 30,000.
