Deschamps nouveau sélectionneur?

According to most sources (as well as Lizarazu), Laurent Blanc will not continue on as the sélectionneur of Les Bleus. Given the timing and situation, the obvious choice as replacement would be Didier Deschamps, however, there's the not-so-good relationship between "France 98" and the FFF a while now. Nevertheless, it is probable Didi's the choice. So what do you all think?

The only other candidates I would personally consider are Rudi Garcia and René Girard due to their club success, or Erick Mombaerts, U-21 sélectionneur, who has good experience with the 87-91 generations now. Apparently the press is also interestingly considering Eric Gerets, the Belgian, to be a more experienced option.

Our esteemed moderator guignol has also mentioned Gillot and Kombouaré as other names they may think about.

According to the press, though, decision will be announced by Tuesday. Also, apparently Platini supports Didi...

garcia and DD are both very obvious candidates. girard i just don't see, he pisses too many people off and though that shouldn't scuttle his candidacy in itself it's a bad habit for a sélectionneur. i think gillot and kombouaré are credible possibilities. mombaerts problem is that too many people will say it's domenech all over again... which wouldn't be such a bad thing but obviously impossible to announce to media and public.

Come on, we must admit that style-wise Domenech and Mombaerts are vastly different... although I agree many out there would see it as "the FFF is a mafia, only hire from within" etc.

I like that you talk about Rousseau and especially Montaigne... brings me back to my college days of a couple of years ago... ah, those were certainly some good times

Well new information coming in would say that the FFF wants Le Guen.

Kombouaré took a job in Saudi Arabia. I strongly suggest they hire a foreign manager. By only focusing on "French guys" they are extremely limiting their pool. The French "do not know best" anymore. They have been surpassed. FFF is stuck in the past with an outdated menatlity.

I'm open to hiring a foreign manager. I don't have much confidence in the FFF, but I will wait and see who it hires.

That would really need him to make " a don de sa personne". However, he already ruled himself out and stated " I will be very busy with Arsenal where my contract still runs for two years."

Wenger just grabbed Giroud, and he is supposedly considering adding Gourcuff and Lloris to go along with Sagna, Koscielny, Diaby and Coquelin. He's got his own French squad to manage. :p

..plus, he really stuck his foot in his mouth today when he said that Spain "pass too much". :D

Can anyone really say that Deschamps will be a better man manager than Blanc was? Seems to me that he was not successful at all in this capacity at OM. And thats clearly what Les Bleus need right now.

Also, who are the possible foreign coaches that could be considered? (even if its very unlikely that the FFF would choose a foreign coach)

Didier Deschamps, apparently, may have decided not to take the position. Interesting...

Well it seems Deschamps is out the discussion. :(

The name the press mentioned a few days ago was Eric Gerets, the ex-PSV manager who is Belgian but obviously Francophone. If he showed any interest and his age wasn't a concern, I assume someone like Carlos Bianchi who had been successful in France and obviously on a worldwide stage, would get considered as well although this solution is probably just me thinking outside the box, don't think Carlos Bianchi is on the list although he is a manager who I believe would do well.

I'm thinking it's either Mombaerts or Le Guen now, if we're taking in terms of plausibility.

Eric Gerets would not be a terrible choice. More capable than Deschamps IMO.

The FFF have gotten themselves into a tight spot. Le Graet wants to reign in the scope of powers of the sélectionneur but in the process he's driven off Blanc and made it very difficult to find a suitable replacement.
