Should be a exciting finish, Bohs don't have anything to play for so I think they (Derry) will get a result and stay up. Be a shame to win the cup and get relegated in the same season.

Congratulations to Waterford Utd, they had a great season this year winning promotion and I hope they can hold on to their best players and make an impact on the premier division next season.

    "Barcelona of Irish football"

Interesting comparison! Although the way Barca are playing this season they could soon claim to be the Derry City of spanish football!

A fair point, very well made, but in reference to Frankk's delusions of Ballybofey glory: there's no point in harps being in the premier division. The likes of Tolka Park and the Brandywell couldnt cope with the sudden influx of sheep, come kick-off on matchday anyway!
We wouldn't know what to do with them. (unlike ye donegal wildmen. You boys would have a quare few plans, eh?!?!?!?!?)

Is there two teams relegated with the third last team playing the third highest team in the First Division?
Or is it just one team relegated with the second last team playing the second placed team from the First?

The latter, last team is relegated with the second last team going to a play off with the runners up from the first division. There is a big difference in standard between the premier and first divisions hence only one team gets promoted automatically.

They gave themselves a great chance by beating Waterford 4-1, but then went out and lost 3-0 to Galway in their next match! Harps are still second but this defeat handed Galway (just 2 points behind) a chance of catching them. They play Sligo at home next while Galway are away to Cobh so Harps should make it.

There is actually a good chance of a North-Western derby between Harps and Derry in the playoff!

ah now danny, you're going to have to cut me some slack here. harps have lived in the shadow of derry for so long you must admit it would be highly ironic IF (big if) harps got promoted at the expense of derry.

actually, i'm in two minds on whether i want derry to get relegated at all. on one hand i'd love it just to see your lot eat some humble pie then again the additional revenue from a NW derby would be very much appreciated (we can't rely on the dubs to travel the 150miles north) and anything that curbs the dublin clubs stranglehold on the league can only be a good thing.

but who to listen to - my heart or my head?

Ted - Bray have been relegated and Waterford promoted. As for the play-offs:

This year 4 teams will compete for the last place in the Premier Division for the 2003 season. The second to bottom team in the Premier Division will face the 4th place team in Division One in the semi-final.
The other semi- final will be between the 2nd and 3rd place in Division One.
The winners of these matches played over two legs, will meet in the final, again to be played home and away.

Really? Didn't know that was the current system. Sounds much better than the previous way.

aye Fair dues Frankk. I well agree about the dublin stranglehold, and i would love a few more local derbies per season (in the prem league of course).
It would give me an excuse to visit ballbofey and stranorlar more often (and do me shoppin' at McElhinneys), so i've no beef wi' that
